Just been looking at the relegated teams to see if anyone's worth nabbing

Newcastle:
Krul: Would be an immense signing, but would cost large % of our budget on a position that is perhaps not a priority
Townsend: Just signed a long contact on big wages, doubt we'd have a chance
Shelvey: Same as Townsend
Colback: Could be a decent addition. Rated him at Sunderland, not sure how he's performed this year

Villa:
Gueye: Probably the only one i'd look at here. I think him and Livermore would make a good partnership (in the style of Kante/Drinkwater)

Norwich:
Naismith: Good player, doubt he'd fancy the championship much
Redmond: Decent young player, bags of pace
Brady: Obviously, although we could be in danger of replicating the same squad that got us relegated

I dont know why people are obsessed with doing this.

Brady would be a bad signing cos a) he'd stunt Robertson's development and b) he's not good enough.
Chester would be a bad signing cos a) he'd stunt Harry's development and b) he's not better than Dawson or Davies.

Price shouldn't come in to it. We need someone to bang it into the back of the net consistently. That has been our Achilles heel for too long. If it costs us £ 20 million then so be it. We have just won the richest game in world football for **** sake.

It does come into it. Missing out by 500k on Gray was annoying, but that doesn't mean we should overcompensate and start pissing money away on people.

Spurs are set to sell Alex Pritchard. I would recommend him from his wonderful season with us but the reported £8m seems pricey.

Why are you baulking at fees north of £10 million? I said it before we have just won the richest game in world football and we need a strikers to keep us in the promised land. You can guarantee that if we do go into the transfer market teams are going to add 10-20% to the asking price anyway.

That's the problem with the new TV deal, when trading starts, it's likely to be at daft levels.

I think this is one of the rare occasions when it would probably be better to do business later in the window, when things have calmed down a bit.

Probably a good thing for us, as I can see us being late starters again with all this uncertainty surrounding owner/manager

Or try to sign players now who play in different countries. An MLS player just to use as an example isnt going to have gone up in price by 100% just because the PL is giving out more TV money this year as the MLS teams are not getting more money. That players market value is most likely the amount he is worth in the league he plays in or some amount close to that.
 
Not too impressed with the names on this thread so far, apart from Will Hughes and maybe Pritchard at Spurs (but not if they're asking silly money). Lewis Dunk is ok, but can be reckless (he was sent off a couple of times this season) and I'm not sure he would displace either Dawson or Davies- yet. Chris Martin- slow, but can hold the ball up, which might suit Hernandez, but doesn't convince me he is PL quality. Didn't see anything from Nick Powell that would make me think he could nail down a 1st team place, but could maybe make the bench. Westwood looked good against us, but is spunking money on a keeper really a major priority and he is a bit of a shortarse for a keeper? Wouldn't Marshall at Cardiff be a better option? Redmond at Norwich - my Norwich season ticket holding relative thinks he is an arrogant, greedy little **** who think's he's far better than he actually is (he rates Brady btw)....Anyway, cannot see a lot happening for a couple of weeks yet, given the Bruce and Allam situations.

Doubt we could get a £20m player to come to us. If he was worth that he would have other clubs going in for him, bigger than us. As it is, we will probably have to pay £10m to get a £5m striker.

What when there's less targets available? So us, Boro and Burnley no doubt end up in a bun fight over the same player pushing up the price?

The only thing I liked about flathead is he got his transfer business done early. **** the pantomime of waiting until the dying minutes to be left bitterly disappointed.
 
I've been watching some Bundesliga this season, and if we're looking for a keeper they have an embarrassment of riches. Being German most of them will speak reasonable English and will be able to communicate with the back 4. Oliver Baumann, Ron-Robert Zieler (in talks with Leister) and Felix Wiedwald all play for mid to low table teams but are more than good enough for the PL, a definite step up on McGregor

Vardy had a year in the Championship & loads of people said he'll never make the step up, 3 years later he's knocking them in for England!
There is lower league players who could step up, but will they get the chance if they did, or would they just be back up & cup players because we spend £5 million on some foreigner who takes all season to settle in, AGAIN!

I watch a fair amount of Bundesliga games and I agree. I suggested a lot of German keepers on here last time we were in the PL, aside from America you don't tend to get many more reliable producers of goalkeepers.

Tom Bradshaw, Will Grigg, Paddy Madden. I'd take any of them if they weren't too expensive.
