We needed a Gray type player - pace, gets in behind and forces defences to sit deep.
Rhodes is immobile, doesn't run much, slow but has a great finish on him. Exactly the type of player we don't need....in my opinion (Good Wife quote)
One the other side of the coin Rhodes may just be the type of foil for Abel to produce his best form .. who knows ?
Abel is quick and he likes balls over the top. He isn't a target man or a link up man. Besides chasing balls over the top he likes to get on the end of passes close to goal. But Abel is far from quick and is more a target/link man - a quick forward would be a better foil - to draw defenders deeper and give him more space to operate in.
As a defender I would have loved to mark those two as a pairing - you wouldn't have to worry about anyone running in behind.

I've not seen Abel race clear because of his pace once in a City shirt.
He did it on Saturday.
So can we get a update on the rumors? There have been to many pages today to go back through it all.
Markus Henriksen - Rumoured to have had a medical.
Jeff Hendrick - Bid accepted by Derby, but looks to have chosen Burnley.
Jay Rodriguez - Loan bid in, unsure if accepted(Southampton have apparently reversed their decision to keep him after signing that young lad)
Dale Stephens - Paper Talk
Florentin Pogba - Paper Talk
Ravel Morrison - Paper Talk
Max Gradel - Paper Talk
There's some of them, there's probably loads more.
Last season:I've not seen Abel race clear because of his pace once in a City shirt. Never seen him go pay anyone and show them a clean pair of heels.
He runs the channels to pick the ball up and shows good strength to bring other players into play. He's decent in the air and has a cracking left foot on him - but no Andre Gray, Marne or even Shane Long.

wasnt they signing someone from psv yesterday as a replacementAZ Alkmaar have had a bid accepted for Iliass Bel Hassani at Heracles Alamo, who according to Dutch media is their replacement for the departing Henriksen. Looks like it might be happening after all.
I think we're seeing different things - I see him getting played in and going one on one with the keeper. Not due to his pace but a well timed pass and run. You could find examples of Teddy Sheringham going through on goal but not due to his pace.
Agree to disagree?
