Does the comment not refer to Snodgrass's pre-season, which you have to say was disrupted after his pregnant girlfriend (wife?) having that awful car crash up north?

That's a pretty good account, can't say I disagree with much of it though it's a little disingenuous to include the cup game against Villa as one where we conceded four and then not include Simeon's cup goals in his tally (didn't he score three/four in total rather than just the one?)

Ah yes! Misread that... Shame I went and posted without having read your reply first! <laugh>

Only two criticisms - I'm not sure that you could say Snodgrass had a disrupted season and it looks from the comments that he originally called Pilks "Kevin".

Mercifully free of cheap Partridge/Delia jokes and some juicy stats for one or two of you to get your teeth into.

A very insightful article and I've always lilked the 'Gruniad' football pages for a pretty unbiased match report. Lots of positives going into the new season. <cheers>

I was referring to the current coverage by Sky and BT Sports, a lot of TV stations around the world show all the games, NBC Sports for instance. I personally pay for Sky and the PL coverage is pants, as a NCFC supporter I would like to be able to watch all of their matches live. Of course there are various laws/restrictions governing the broadcast of matches and those need to change first.

The main point about overseas stations covering all games is that it doesn't impact on attendance at matches. Here Sky and BT have the rights to live coverage of only about 40% of PL matches, thus limiting the damage to season ticket sales and attendances that blanket coverage would threaten. The PL have to balance the health of the league against income from the sale of TV rights. I believe the new deal makes provision for "near-live" broadcast of virtually all PL matches, so it should be possible to watch entire games soon after they've finished. <ok>

thanks for the link Rob, a good read i think and quite balanced really especially the comments about improving our record on the road and also against the bottom six

the comments section is interesting as well, some bitter comments also, maybe col u mike or jonah has logged on?

Surprisingly few though and they've all been called out!

I agree Rob, I think the vast majority of comments are favourable to us and the ones that aren't either can't spell Hootun's name roight or are QPR fans so they don't count.

When I was backpacking around the globe a few years ago now and was both surprised and absolutely delighted to discover that in many bars/restaurants in S Asia you can watch the Saturday PL 3pm kick-offs live (9pm with the time difference) which was something I was unaware of. I've subsequently found out that this is the case around many other parts of the world so it has always seemed a bit odd that someone in a little village in the north of Cambodia can be watching live Premiership football as it happens when we are (still) unable to.

I knew what you were referring to chap, just lately it appears that Robbie wants to argue the toss about everything that isn't explained in minute detail for some reason.

<ok>

I'm changing my user name to tetchyBB. But as an alien from another planet, I do sometimes have difficulty understanding humans, so you'll have to make allowances Munky. <ok>

i didn't watch the bt sport preview but i'm reliably told it was a bit of a shambles. bland pundits who lack deep knowledge of the game. apparently, david james was asked about stekelenburg and didn't even know who he was! i think everything i've seen so far from them suggest it will be a tacky attempt to copy sky sports while the very thought of michael 'yawn' owen commentating makes me.... zzzz

The nation will love it then

owen was dull, david james was pretty dull
hargreaves was quite knowledable and macmanaman was lively. frankily they were no better than the MOTD dull-ards.

Of course they are going to take a while to get it right!, they are newcomers.
and as it's free this season as i have BT broadband, i don't really care

I don't like the time and scoreline in the bottom left corner and the picture in a picture being used every 2 seconds, and watching BT Sports online is impossible because of the poor picture quality.
