Talking of BT Sport's coverage, has anyone ever noticed how almost all ex-Liverpool players go on to become crap tv pundits when they retire? Coincidentally, many ex-Manchester United players go on to become crap managers!
Comment from 'Pink un' - says it all really!!! "Very impressed with Redmond tonight, performance of high quality, man of the match, can't ask a lot more than that. Spoke very well in the interview at the end of the game too, sounds quite down to earth. Only annoying element was how desperate the commentators were to fawn and coo over Sterling, largely at the expense of Redmond who (on this showing) is just as good + an end product. Exciting times." Wouldn't expect anything else, as he doesn't play for a 'BIG CLUB!!!'
Going back to nathan redmond, we need to make sure he doesn't get burnt out too quickly as can happen with younger players (e.g Sterling last year). however, he does seem in good form so we should use him on saturday, even it is for the last 20 mins of the game. i do have confidence that the management team will do this.
hughton managed him well at birmingham so i see no reason why he won't do that here too. the only problem i foresee would potentially be if pilkington were ruled out for a long period.
I don't think that's too much of an issue because I think it was pretty clear from pre-season that Hughton sees Olsson as adequate cover. I think the ultimate consequence of a long-term Pilks injury is that Garrido will get a lot of game time, rather than Redmond being over-played. Of course, if there were two injuries we could be in a bit of trouble.
this thread seems to be covering TV as well, so i've read that Sky Sports 1 is free on Sat 17th August - for those of you on Freeeview, it says 'Pick Tv' will be showing the Sky sports 1 content they have the swansea vs man utd match at tea time
Redmond has a lot of playing experience for his age, both with Brum and the U21s, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Impact sub still seems the likeliest option for now though. Also not sure about his tracking back abilities, which is where Olsson would have an advantage in the absence of Pilks, especially against top 7 sides or away from home.
Redmond doesn't just have ability; he clearly also has character and a great attitude. Judging from what Josh Murphy tweeted when they were in the States, his arrival has been great for our own youngsters. Just a fantastic acquisition, and well done CH for persuading him that this was the right move for him, since I believe at Brum he had the added stability of living at home.
Whilst only 19, redmond has played a lot if professional football. He played 42 games last season and whist I think he will be in and out of the team this season I have no concerns over his fitness. He played loads of minutes in preseason and had played in the u21 euros yet seemed our best player in several games. I think he's loving the chance to step up and if he plays like this could be a wild card pick to go to brazil (if we do go).
What an exciting option to have when Pilks is injured (or even when he's fit again!!) and I'm sure CH will use him wisely. I agree he could at least be in the squad for the remaining qualifiers.
absolutely, he's very experienced for his age, but even more reason to tread carefully with the lad. burn out for young players who play a lot of games early on can be 23-24. he still needs to be filtered in and out of the team and even the squad at the right times. his form will go up and down more dramatically than others but he's definitely got the raw materials to be an england winger for many years to come and could be a bloody important player for us already!

Personally I'm glad Russ is still number 2, I took a bit of a risk and got him on my new away shirt as a birthday present. was very unlikely he changed though.
Has Fox moved from 15 to 25 then? I know you can't read too much into squad numbers, but to me that suggests he's either on his way out or even less in Hughton's plans than last year. Unless players indicated a choice, surprised 16 wasn't given to Redmond or Olsson. Surprised Fer got 10, but I suppose all the other low numbers were taken. I really don't want to see him as an attacking midfielder though!
