Well thanks for a fair load of old gobbledygook and codswallop vimhawk but having supported Spurs since Steve Archibald's time I can count myself as a supporter and I'm not a wum. I can see when our team is on good form or bad form and I naturally prefer the former and I can see its strengths and its weaknesses. I can add nothing more than what I've already posted. Our relegation season was in 1976 I think,why are you going back that far? You've brought up a load of old hogwash nowhere near the subject.. Yes I'm carrying on supporting Spurs regardless of imperfections. Just what the hell are you talking about?

Ghoddle,I think you're just as weak a character as Hoddle was a manager if you are going to throw insults because of an opinion about our score lines. Yes superal we are putting in improved performances but all I'm saying is that we are not there yet and I don't think that we are as effective as we should be and Ghoddle doesn't have the strength of character to accept that without throwing insults. Maybe his standards are lower than mine.
tots,exactly,our finishing wasn't as good as it should have been against Arsenal and that's a bit of a concern isn't it? They went very close early on. No I think we still have some way to go whatever Ghoddle thinks or posts. Besides Asgard is the realm of the Gods not Valhalla.

Hang on, it was you who started with the insults O Mighty One. I don't rate your opinions or posting style so you can toddle off to Asgard if that's where you normally hang out. When you start backing the team and stop waving your hammer around against other posters then I might bother with you again. But until then, I'm off to a meeting of Humanist Society as I don't believe in deities :-)

With regards to our season, we'veve already put in some tremendous performances. I've been followig Spurs for over 50 years and the stuff we produced against Hearts away, Pool at home and the first half at Wigan was breathtakingly brilliant, and as good as anything I've seen in my lifetime.

Admittedly, you can't judge the slower older players against the modern ones, but the way we've passed and moved in those games would have left our '51' and '61' teams chasing shadows, it was quality, precision football at high pace. As someone else has said, if you can't enjoy our performances this season, you must be a right misery or WUM. Mind you, Spurs fans are noted for being moaners and whingers, so you'd fit right in with large sections of our crowd at a typical home game. The quality of finishing from VDV is absolutely brilliant BTW, for me he's the best finisher I've seen since Greavesie, possibly Lineker, but he's right up there. The goal he scored at Wigan was a strike of beauty and wonder, no matter how many times I watch it, I still can't believe he scored from what was barely a half chance. But so stunning and precise was the strike, he made it look deceptively easy.

Think calling him a dirty player is a bit extreme. Karl Henry & De Jong are dirty players, they go out to foul the opposition. Tiote got a bit of a reputation last season, and therefore towards the end of the season he would get booked for his first foul of the match, even if it was in the 80th minute and harmless. He plays his DM role very well - and commits himself to slide tackles. He isnt the sort to injure your players, or get sent off. (He's only been sent off once for us, against Stevenage where he won the ball <doh>)

Hi BF, I can only call it as I see it. What I've seen of Tiote, he is a 'dirty player' and he also got Kaboul sent off through his 'antics', so I can't stand the player from the little I've seen of him. I barely watch Toon unless we play them, so may have got a false picture. But we'll see on the 16th, I expect tiote to be fouling, kicking and winding up our players. If I'm wrong about that, then fair enough, I'll post up an apology after the game. I hope if my prediction proves true, you'll be good enough to do likewise<ok>

I didn't like the tackles Tiote put in last season but Kaboul only has himself to blame for getting sent off.

I think that a lot of Spurs fans have their view of Tiote tainted by our games against you last season, particularly the one at WHL, where Kaboul was dismissed.
I don't think that I'm exaggerating when I say that Tiote committed about 6 bookable offences in that fixture.
The ref was unbelievably poor that day.

I can understand why your views of Tiote has been changed by that game, likewise mine has by De Jong on Ben Arfa and Karl Henry on Joey Barton last season. At times Tiote is fortunate to stay on the pitch, but never due to intending to injure a player - but through bookable offences like Poll mentioned. Likewise his sending off was unfortunate as it wasnt warranted. It's all about the ref on the day I suppose.

Where's your courage is hardly an insult Ghoddle so stop being so indignant. I'm saying that the scores should have been wider and that's all. There are no moans and whinges there. You're being too sensitive. I am backing the team only I'm backing it to do better as I know it can. If you don't want to answer my posts then so be it and it's ONLY a username. Also look at your first post to me and see who started the insults. Can't you take a little criticism of the team?

Well I took it as an insult, and so would the mighty Thor, I betcha. Incidentally, I was right the first time - Valhalla is where Thor lived

'Within Valhalla exists Thor's hall Bilskirnir'

Valhalla is a part of Asgard - mmm what is them Norsemen say - owned :-)

Moving away from Norse mythology, basically OMT, you remind me of a typical Spurs moaner, who's never happy unless he's whinging about something. Maybe I'm wrong, tell you what we'll start again, skip the insults and let our posts and what they say about Spurs do the talking.

I don't know what the Norse for 'Peace' is, neither did half those Vikings <laugh>, but peace anyway <ok>

I'm not sure that calling something "old gobbledygook and codswallop" actually makes it so. I don't think Paxman would accept that as a reply because you haven't really answered the question. I don't think what I was saying was that hard to understand, but I will paraphrase/summarise:

1. I wasn't sure if you were a Spurs supporter or a WUM;
2. If you considered yourself to be a Spurs suppporter I questioned whether the your postings fitted in with how a "supporter" would behave;
3. If you are looking for consistently better than you are getting now, I suggested you might be disappointed more often than satsisfied; and
4. Was wondering how you might have reacted should you have been a "supporter" many years ago when our team was significantly worse than now. I don't see how long ago it was is relevant.

And I should also add that I completely concur with the bit where you say "I'm carrying on supporting Spurs regardless of imperfections".

Valhalla is where the spirits of the dead warriors went and Thor did reside there for a while but it's only a username that I use from my days of Marvel comics where he was my favourite Avenger(remember them?) so it's easy to remember that's all.
Please shut up vimhawk.

Hi OMT, no I don't remember them. I stopped reading comics in the 1960s, so that was probably after my time. I was more a Victor and Roy of the Rovers follower, but I do remember DC and Marvel comics too.The point is that Valhalla is in Asgard, and that's where Thor resided in Norse mythology, which is where I'm taking my cultural references from.

Anyway, it's not important, let's both get behind Spurs, and help lead us to triumphs that they will write epic poems and mighty comics about <ok>

whatever happened to Diana Rigg

She did a lot of acting on stage. I saw her, IIRC, in Tom Stoppard's 'Jumpers' in the 70s, and then later a modernised Greek tragedy, about fifteen years ago, something relating to the Oresetes/Clytemestra/Elektra stories..

Completely off topic trivia:

The name "Emma Peel" allegedly comes from the conversation where the producers were looking for an actress with man appeal (man appeal = m appeal = emma peel).

And she certainly did/does.

vimhawk,it's a pity your username isn't simhawk because then it would be an anagram of mawkish which you are. All your uncertainties of me etc is as you put it off topic trivia. Supporters are different and view things differently. I just don't think that we are firing on all cylinders as reflected in two or three narrower scores than I thought should have been,as simple as that. You're making huge complications out of nothing.

I completely ignored your "shut up" comment even though it was rather unnecessary and aggressive. I was prepared to let it go in the interests of preserving this thread without the sort of slanging match that they sometimes become, which is of little interest to anyone else. I fail to see the point of any further exchange of opinions but you have now choosen to take exception to a completely inoffensive post I made, which whilst admittedly off topic does relate to a couple of other postings in this thread. You have also curiously provided an anagram of something which isn't my user name! Er... thanks for that.

I am certainly prepared to restrict our exchanges to football if you are, in which case can you please cease your personal attacks on me.

Of course it wasn't you who answered in the first place a thread that you could easily have ignored was it? Anyway as you cannot comprehend what's written in front of you let's cease contact,I'd prefer it.
