I don't watch the lads as much as I used to (wife, kids, live in Surrey etc.) but I can't say that JH has ever struck me as a stand-out player when I've seen him. Feel free to shoot me down, as I know I haven't seen him as much as most on here, but I have been wondering what all the fuss is about, frankly. I'd take £18.5M tomorrow, for someone whose potential has yet to be fully realized and use it to buy 2-3 quality midfielders (this assumes they'll come, of course).
I personally think Jordan can do it now - his stats for the season were better than Wilshires - 82 chances created by him, 5 assists and 3 goals to Wilshires 3 assists and 1 goal in a team that are much better than Sunderland. If Henderson created 82 chances in an Arsenal or Man Utd side then you can put money that he'd have had 10 or 20 assists as they would score a lot more of them than we did (especially the way Bent was in his final 6 or 7 weeks at the club) Henderson is a great footballer and has the ability but a lot of people only see what he did over the past 5 months rather than the 14-18 months before that - in his first season everyone on here (or 606) raved about him (and rightly so) - he's only 20 years old (21 next week I believe) so to get on his back as he lost form is crazy. Personally I hope he stays as he has a lot of ability (and delivers one of the best crosses from a moving ball that I have ever seen!!)
Sorry- I thought that as I posted it. Sounds a bit laughable after the second half of the season I agree. Potentially star midfielder? Star midfielder in the eyes of other (big 4) clubs who don't watch us every week? Only potential England player left at the club after DB left? ...Just trying to convey the point that I think selling some of our better players isn't the best idea ever!
What scousers are claiming that? The Echo can be reliable at times so id be inclined to listen to that. Can you guys give an honest valuation on what you think this guy is worth. I havent really heard much about him if im honest and we aren't talking pennies here!
From a dead ball...first man/hit the wall. And from a moving ball...maybe one decent ball every game doesnt make a good wide player. Never.
Have to agree to disagree there DTAD - his delivery from a moving ball - look at the Fulham and Wolves games recently - crosses from him were superb - just we had no-one in the centre attacking the ball (i.e. no strikers). It's not just "one every game" - his dead ball is shocking and I completely agree with you there but from a moving ball it's impossible to directly create 82 chances if you do not put in a good cross (5th best in the Premier league)
This suggest to me with better player's Henderson would be sitting with 10 plus assist's, would people still not rate him? Now tell me, who did Liverpool aquire in January that would benefit from that kind of service? If they sign Jordan from us, alot of people in the northeast will be looking over to liverpool with envious eyes.
I won't. They can have him, the lad isn't worth 18.5p nevermind £18.5m. Imagine who we could buy with that.
Henderson is a very good player, but I don't think we can resist that sort of money. If he wants to stay then he should stay, as he's a great asset. If he wants to go, he can go, we get much more money than he is worth and we buy a replacement. We win in both scenarios.
Totally agree! If he wants to leave... Fair enough, but if he is happy to stay and we sell........ Id seriously consider cancelling my season ticket D/D and spend next yr watching Durham City! At least I would know we won't get ****ed over by short sighted decisions. If Hendo leaves, the door is clearly open to Colbeck, Meyler et al...... So what's the point in turning up cos we will never amount to anything if we maintain a small club mentality.
