Oh Frankie, Frankie..... I was there that day! Fabulous. Remember Frankie’s first goal? He almost fell over the keeper as the ball trickled in (against wolves, I think).
I've had a day of it today to be fair. My Apple watch is showing 14,000 steps, I have done over an hour of workouts, 3 mile walk with dogs, pressure hose the front of the house, replaced two huge concrete slabs and painted a door. Oh and had a bottle of red
Me too. Three bike rides this weekend (100 miles total) followed by two days of gardening and jet washing and clearing up garden for the birthday bash, then a day on the BBQ swearing my knackered off.... whilst father in law drunk all my Brew Dog Punk, leaving me his cheap IPA Great weekend though.
What was your favourite season of the last ten years? Season 09/10 The most harrowing summer as a saints fan. Spent every minute away from work glued to a news outlet trying to find out if we would be saved. Every hour was being counted down by sky sports in some sort of rabid feeding frenzy of excitement. As deadline day hit, I felt sick, really thought it was the end. Then Markus steps in. We have our saviour. The coming season became the most anticipated season of my life time. Suddenly we had a owner unlike any other before him. A manager that was considered a coup by L1 standards, and a chairman with a ruthless streak. Near the end of the season, sat with the most one sided crowd Wembley has ever seen, I knew that we were going to be challenging, asking questions and our relentless approach was going to bare fruits. Absolutely amazing feeling. There's been better times on the pitch, but that season is the most special for me. Nearly losing everything, to building some so special. I'll always be grateful to the people that helped make that happen.
Match report from 10 years ago this week, a 2-2 draw at home to Burnley that confirmed our relegation. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/8001904.stm
Here’s that epic match at Elland Road, where Super Kelvin Davis, already a club legend, achieved immortality:
And when questioned about the FA's double whammy sanction which meant Saint's relegation was ensured , Brian Mawhinny just laughed.
And they said they wouldn't let any possible sale go through if we were to dispute the legality of the punishment. Bastards put their reputation before our survival.
Without Google I can tell you and anyone else that this was the weekend I took my wife to London, for a break. We got back to the hotel, from a show, put the news on to hear, something like “There were two hat tricks at Southampton today.....”. My wife looked quite fearful when the 8-2 score was mentioned, as I used to go to every game. Such is life.
10 years on and Dave McGoldrick may well be heading to the premier league and putting that penalty miss behind him once and for all
