Now on the OS so must be true - at last!
They are trying to put a brave face on it but £1.65m is a rotten price - no mention of a sell on clause either.
What you might call a desperation deal by CS.

At the end of the day we were lucky to shift him on. No other takers and would have walked for a free and probably caused a lot of resentment in the squad. A painful lesson in contract management but the problem is that there is simply no win - allow them to enter the last year and they can screw you or sign a long term contract and if they turn out to be a dud, you're saddled with the wages.

Modern day football is a tough business. Players and agents, on the whole, greedy buggers. What would John Ateyo make of all this crap???

reading the thing on the city website from him sounds to me that he having a dig at millen i think that helped him wanting to get out of here he did good for us and yes it coulda ended better but that is life

There will be other Maynards, because there always are

So, one goes who was valuable to us, and 2 go who were a drain on our resources.
But nobody joined, which is a shame.

I still can't understand the deal, I've just heard we (Wigan Athletic) offered just short of £2m and were willing to offer him double what he was being paid by you and a (relatively) massive bonus in the summer if we stayed up and would be willing to sell him for zero profit if we went down.

It seems the extra £10k per week West Ham offered was more tempting than guaranteed PL football for half a season, greed wins out 99.9% of the time and BS and lies about 'playing at the top level' are soon forgotten when you talk to your accountant.

Now that the widow is shut and we've done bugger all to get new players in, our fate seems inevitable, so I may as well say that I'm looking forwards to visting Bristol once again next season (I'm not really looking forward to it as the roads are always chock-a-block before we even reach Birmingham).

You will be going down and West Ham will take your place
Simples !

Nothing personal. I think Wigan have been a credit to the small club brigade, and have shown that even such as us can exist in the upper echelons.
I just think your time may have run out (and so does Maynard it seems)

<laugh> BRILLIANT bit of business by the Robins. 6 million (crazy bid I agree!) in the summer rejected, 1.65 million accepted now.....................MUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
