Typically it'll be when they take the system down for "routine maintenance" - when the expected traffic usage is at the statistical low point. You must log in or register to see images
This is what I get quiet regularly during the night UK time.

Upgrades, fixes to reported system bugs etc etc. These down times are usually less than 15 minutes in my experience, often much less.
I may have oversimplified a bit John, but I would suspect it's usually the host server being briefly offline for issues at their end:I guessed that what it might have been, but thought I would put it out there just in case there was an issue.
Myself, I never use the log out function but, part of my computer routine is regular use of a free programme called 'CCleaner', it takes all the **** you accrue while your browsing, temp files, cookies, dat files and other stuff that slows your machine down. I find that every time after using it I have to re-log into the site as it's obviously cleaned up the data pertaining to this site - it's not gonna fix the problems with the site but, if you want to log out it'll do it for you. I use CCleaner, Malwarebytes and Adblocker (all freebies) and, touching wood, haven't had any issues for years.

I use cc cleaner I bought the paid version in the end. Like you say takes care of all the ****. Also Adblock+ does a good job.
