That's pretty much how I get through life.
It's just easier to assume something is about to **** your life up right around the corner. Makes the blow not as painful if it does come.
A couple of weeks ago a visit to any Middlesbro message board would have revealed a set of supporters largely convinced that promotion was a certainty and that they were already champions elect today all kind of doubts are evident such is the nature of this league and why in so many ways it is more exciting than the premier league .
I would say we have to be pretty nailed on for at least a top six finish barring a major collapse ( like Derby last season )
We have in my opinion the best overall squad with the most experience though not necessarily of the rough and tumble of the championship
We have scored the most and have a very miserly defence
We can grind out results home and away and when in top form blow away every other team and that for our smoggy friends includes you.
As others have remarked in reality this is virtually the squad Bruce put together to survive in the premier league something no other team can boast .
We have at last found a forward who can score goals lots of them
Lastly we have a manager with a track record second to none in getting out of this division.
Despite all this we should avoid the hubris of the Derby and boro fans.
Pride comes before a fall and all that me I am enjoying these halcyon days given the diet of scraps I've had to feed off for most of the 45 years I've supported City long may it continue

Do you remember this same over-confident mood on the board when we reached the top spot last time, and the nasty shock when we dropped back down into the play-off zone?
I remember a Boro fan coming on here a couple of weeks ago saying how his team would walk this league. I suppose he's had a bit of a shock too.
Remember Michael Gray saying Boro would win "at a canter" and Ian Holloway saying much the same thing? Maybe they're slightly embarrassed now.

18 games left, 9 home & 9 away, we should do it, but there's no guarantees, we all know City never do it the easy way.

Have a feeling those away games at Burnley, Boro, Derby and even Birmingham will be crucial for us in deciding the outcome of our season. Take points from those games and you'd think we'd be in a very good position on May 7th. Our run in after the Derby game looks pretty kind on paper but we all know how difficult City like to make things! Any of the top 5/6 teams at the moment could stake a realistic claim to going up automatically, we just need to make sure we keep going and take it a game at a time. As others have mentioned, a lot does depend as well on who we recruit this month and avoiding injuries to the likes of Hernandez and Greggsy. Quietly confident that we can take one of those top 2 places at present.
I think we will, as Champions, providing we sign a suitably decent support forward. We are susceptible to a goals shortage if we have any injuries to Hernandez.
It would be nice to go up as winners of the league rather than runners up or play off winners, we've already got the t-shirts for those.
I'll add that it's in our hands, we have the squad to achieve automatic. We are in top spot having not played to our maximum potential, throughout this season so far I think we've only played at 75-80% and we are still top.

I was at Barnsley away, I couldn't believe what I saw unfold in front of me!
It was typical City, a sold out stand full of our fans and a City team really struggling to live with the expectation ......... the behaviour of some of our idiots at the end was ****ing disgusting though, I honestly thought Quinny was coming into the stand to 'em.

In 17 years of following City, I've seldom felt worse after a game than that Barnsley match.
It certainly was, right in front of a packed stand full of noisy City fans ............. it killed the party atmosphere in that stand stone dead!
McGregor looks confident and the back four, even without Dawson, looks water-tight. We have a lot of quality in midfield, and Hernandez is looking like our best striker since... ever? Added to these advantages, both Derby and Middlesborough have fallen at the final hurdle many times whereas we have been there and done it - twice. Barring catastrophic injury, I reckon we're nailed on for promotion.
