I think we'll finish in the top two if we're in the top two after the Brum game. Between now and then is a tough run of fixtures.
I desperately want us to win every game However I'm not bothered whether we go up I realise the two things conflict
Dont know!! If we knew it was certain that d be boring. If we do it ll be a desperate last say affair again doing it the hard way like last time. Defo not has champs im certain of that.
There's no such thing as a tough fixture for us in this league. If we had this very squad this season in the premier league, and we drew any of these teams away in say the 6th round of the fa cup, we'd be laughing.
Based on points per game we're on course to get 92pts. That's the point total of champions if I ever saw it. 08/09 Winners: Wolves, 90pts 09/10 Winners: Newcastle, 102pts 10/11 Winners: DQPR, 88pts 11/12 Winners: Reading, 89pts 12/13 Winners: Cardiff, 87pts 13/14 Winners: Leicester, 102pts 14/15 Winners: Bournemouth, 90pts Of course, a lot can happen between now and the end. If I recall, Reading won the title in 11/12 even though only a couple of months earlier they were around the edge of the playoffs.
Anyone allowed to express a note of caution or is this the gung ho thread? Up to two weeks ago I thought we were more likely to do the play offs than automatic. I now think we have a very good chance of automatic but: I) Our away performances are still not that good and we have to play 3 of our main 4 rivals away from home yet ii) In the same way as injury to one or two key players seriously derailed us for a while in December, the same thing could happen again. If Mcgregor or Hernandez get injured, what then? iii) Last time we went up we really bottled it at the end. Remember those awful performances v Bristol City, Barnsley? It could happen again. I think we have a very good chance but 50 years of being a Hull City fan makes me put it at about 50/50.
Still a long way to go, still a lot of tough fixtures but yes we have a great chance, there is still a number of other teams competing for top two but keeping key players fit is important like wise for other clubs and as always injuries and strength of squads will be important, lets not forget we still have to go away to clubs around us so taking points off them will be needed, before yesterday I said we have three away league games on the trot then finish with nine at home from our last sixteen games so this again is an important period we won yesterday now onto the next two lets hope for more points gained from them. You can never get over confident with Hull city and despite what some think there is some very decent teams in this league but at this moment in time we are in as good a position as anybody.
So we are. I had accidentally calculated 27 games rather than 28. The point still remains. Top 2 is a sure certainty based on current form.
This is the best comment on here, if Hernandez for example got injured then it makes a huge difference to us. If Bruce brings in another striker I would be more confident of automatically going up as Akpom/Diomande/Aluko are sketchy stand ins.
Too much positivity on here It doesn't sit comfortably with me Been around City too long Please stop it, thank you
The arrival of Snodgrass on the scene I think is going to make a real difference. A 75% chance of going up.
It is nice to look at the table and see a bit of a gap emerging to the play-offs it has to be said, best not to get carried away though. My gut tells me we will go up but injuries will play a part, we have got ever so lucky with the emergence of Maguire when Daws has been out but it could so easily have been the other way and cost us badly.
Injuries are the main reason I'm optimistic. We're seriously close to having a fully fit squad - how many clubs can say that in January?
I know that's the traditional view, but even in the dark days, as bad as we've been, I always approached each game with an air of optimism. My dad always said I was deluded and it was better to assume it'd be a disaster, that way you'd never be disappointed. I've never been able to look at life like that, must get it from me mam.
I hope so.... However, Derby's crash & burn last year should be lesson for us not to get to complaceant. Owt can still happen
