The new bookies' favourite to take the job.

A lot of people seem to be very hostile to this news, but I don't think he's a terrible shout. He worked wonders to get Burnley to the PL on a shoestring budget, and even though they went down they played some decent stuff at times, and were fairly solid at the back. He also got them to be the hardest-working team in the league, and I'm sure we'll all agree that sometimes our players need a kick up the arse to get them running and putting effort in.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but I can't understand why people are saying they'd cancel their season card if he's appointed. What do people think about this?

Can't discredit dyche for his work effort this season mate.., although in saying that if he was 'next level' then he'd have burnley in the top 10 this season with management skill & lack of squad depth.. He's good, just not what we're looking for at this present time.

Short was looking at him before Poyet so probs some truth in this. I'd rather have him than some of these foreign managers i've never heard of but we need to think bigger and better imo...

I can see the logic in all the points made. Another issue is that while he comes across as a nice bloke, he might not be the strong personality we need. There are some big egos in that dressing room and I think we need another big character like Advocaat to stamp his authority on them.

I like Dyche but he is definitely not the right man for us, we need someone who has experienced success and building teams.

Aye, we've tried the unproven wildcard tactic in the past with PDC and Poyet and it hasn't worked out. We need a safe pair of hands to final put an end of this run of relegation battles. Problem is finding a realistic candidate who would be willing to come...

He's only favorite because of betting patterns. I'm staying neutral on who I'd want because I don't know who I want, but I think Congerton should be setting our sights higher.

I agree. Congerton and Dick are working together on this, they've got wealth of contacts between them and a glowing report on the passion of the club. With all that in mind are just going to for the best manager of the relegated clubs who the bookies placed at near the top of the list purely down to a default convenience? Doubt it myself like. Sights should be higher and we've got the influence to achieve it.

Mind you, we haven't hired him so it's hardly another cheap gamble that is starting to define Ellis Short as an owner, it's just rumor that's triggered people to bet on Dyche.

Who promised you that? I've never heard short or congerton make that promise. Advocaat might have failed in a full season here who knows? Dyche got his teem playing to their strengths. He knew they were never likely to succeed but got them playing.

I'd prefer a tried and trusted but maybe they're as common and expensive as 15 goal strikers!

the bottom line is, there's no outstanding candidate for the job....................well there is but they wont come to Sunderland.
So whoever it is isn't gonna please everybody.
I'd rather have ginger beard than some bloke from Germany I've never heard of.
OK none of us are gonna die of excitement but at least he knows the league and his teams give 100%.

Dyches done a cracking job and Burnley. They were not as bad as the table suggested this season, but due to having next to no money to spend the lack of quality in their squad was the downfall.
I'd have his ginger goatie over McClarens ginger head any day !!

Dyche reminds me a bit of Paul Jewel.... Did ok at Wigan, moves to a bigger club and bombs. It's no for me..I think he should stay at Burnley.... He is comfortable there.

It depends what we are gonna do re investment next year
If Short wants to hang on with minimal investment and do another relegation mess then dyche would suit
If we are looking to progress we need to pitch it higher

While I probably don,t think that Dyche is the man for the job, he did do well for Burnley so wouldn't,t be a total fail for me if it was him
I,m sure we,ll all get behind who gets the gig but it needs to happen in the next couple. Of weeks to get the guy in the seat, working with Congerton and the back-room staff and then seeing Short with his shopping and selling list
