BTW, I noticed from the official PL commentary that they were unaware as to why some of the home crowd booed Chambers every time he touched the ball. Whilst I don't advocate booing, sometimes an absence of cheering just doesn't cut it..! So I can understand that a crowd may want to express itself in every form. Booing is expressing displeasure, in this case towards the individual Chambers.

So how can a member of the media be so uninformed about a player who played 25 times for the first team in his break through season in the PL, and then told the club that had brought him through that he saw no future for himself at Southampton, and expressed a desire to leave for Arsenal, who had come calling..? After all, Chambers is a headline player these days. The media should know everything about him by now.

Again, whilst I don't advocate booing, when I heard it happening, I completely understood the motivation.

I saw something on this in a metro article from an arsenal perspective.
It claimed booing chambers shows saints fans will "boo anything" and then compared chambers reaction to theo's and was completely ignorant about how different the situations are.

Theo left when we were in the championship where Harry (who couldn't give a toss) was manager. The type of player he is also probably wouldn't have benefited from being kicked every week.

Chambers left a premier league side for one where on paper he would get less first team chances and where the manager doesn't really trust young defensive players. The reason he has played so much is because of injuries and he has been over exposed and massively found out.
With a full squad he is solidly a reserve for them.

At saints he would probably have Toby's squad place. So if we manage to sign Toby permanently then he will probably deserve cheering as his greed and selfishness would actually have resulted in us being better off...

It was a bit pathetic booing Chambers, frankly. Did he demand to leave, or did he go with the club's blessing? We don't know. Did he use social media to engineer a way out? Don't think so.

Incidentally, best player in an arsenal shirt for me was Chamberpot. Glad he didn't get booed-just wish he still played for us.

Loved the Walcott song btw.

I've just been thinking (dangerous I know), but for all the stick Arsenal are getting - and some of it justified - what two games has Fraser made the most and best saves in this season so far?

Food for thought.

Arsenal's only problem is Wenger's stubbornness to admit he needed to sign a CB and a CDM.

Put Toby and Morgan in that team, they'd be awesome.

Let's make sure we don't then :)

''Put Toby and Morgan in that team, they'd be awesome''

I demand that fats is struck off for that comment...his epaulettes should be ripped from his shoulders and his sword broken (oooh, painful).

You are right... I apologise. I don't know what came over me. I think it is the affect of being so high in the league, I came over all dizzy. I hereby declare myself "teaboy"

The rumour is that the club didn't mind losing Chambers as they thought he wasn't essential (unlike Schneiderlin). Wouldn't boo him, but also wouldn't treat him as a returning hero as he gave us very little (apart from money) in return for his training.

There are different levels of booing at St Marys, this was more a "we disapprove of what you did" ripple, rather than a hate filled rant at someone that is intensely disliked! I don't approve of any booing but it is just another weapon in the fans armoury, and they paid their money so are entitled to have a bit a go. At least Theo and Oxo gave their recognition of our support, that has to be worth savouring.

*Dejan/Adam - are you paying attention*

He still asked to leave and handed in a transfer request. We did not want to sell until he made it clear what he wanted. You can even tell it was mainly down to Chambers wanting to leave from what he said "I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to everyone at @southamptonfc for everything they have done & for making this possible." If that isn't a thank you for letting me get what I want I don't know what is.

Saints just didn't try hard to keep him, like we did Morgan.

I never understand the good reception for the Ox - can no-one remember how he went behind the clubs back to do a national newspaper interview saying he wanted to leave? Think Cortese fined him for it.

Same. But at least he walks around and claps the crowd.

Let's be honest, it basically comes down to the fact neither Ox nor Chambers were key members of the team when they left. I think Ox also gets a pass because his move was clearly a huge step up - we were League One/Championship and Arsenal were a Champions League team.

I think it is more a fact that they play for us for a year or just over then ask to level. Shaw is the same to me, I just knew about his move months before he left so had time to accept it. Shaw, Chambers, Oxo all annoyed me by wanting to leave so soon. But Lovren and Lallana are probably the only ones I will boo.

My understanding was that Koeman was surprised by Arsenal's interest in Chambers and when the size of the bid became apparent, he is supposed to have remarked that it was like an unexpected birthday present. I was disappointed initially but felt Arsenal paid over the odds - especially as I don't feel if is a fraction as talented as Lallana or Shaw. The biggest surprise was seeing how quick he ended up in the England squad - galling for Saints fans as it gave the appearance of the "big club syndrome" again and, more significantly, made it incomprehensible that Chambers appeared to be initially favoured in lieu of the superior Nathaniel Clyne. I don't blame the fans for booing him. It is all part of the atmosphere and is not as if he was a loyal and key component of the team. I expect that the treatment of Lambert, if we see him down St. Marys, will be a marked contrast.

In theory I'd boo Lovren, but the reality now is that I'd probably laugh at him, which is a bigger diss than booing.

Saints just didn't try hard to keep him, like we did Morgan.

Which, by the way, was the correct decision. Clyne is better, as a player and in our team, and being a few years older isn't important. We weren't short of cash but the money made sure we didn't have to accept any offer for Morgan, even north of £30m (and after a stroppy tweet). I don't blame Calum for wanting to go to Arsenal, but it was good for us as well.

People sat near the dugouts will able to boo the best....because that is where Dejan will be sat.

I think it is that for the first few years of his arsenal career he hardly played at all. He was wasted on the bench (just like Walcott). It is what arsenal like to do with young players (Chambers situation is different due to injuries).
I think because we made it back to the the Premier League (and started paying 12-15m transfer fees) and he was still largely a reserve for them some fans might have had a naive hope that we would bid to re-sign him...
