I see us and West Ham have been linked with bringing Samba back from Russia.
Personally I'm not over excited about this prospect as I think we should go for someone a bit younger....
Hopefully just press speculation.

Dynamo Moscow defender Christopher Samba is reportedly in negotiations with West Ham United and Newcastle United over a return to the Premier League in January.

According to Russian publication Izvestiya, Samba has been approached by representatives of the two clubs with a view to completing a move once the transfer window reopens.

Out of favour at Dynamo, Samba has played in just one of the club's last eight matches.

Vladimir Granat, whose excellent recent form has earned a place in Fabio Capello's Russia side, and summer signing Douglas have kept Samba out of the starting eleven.

Dynamo signed Samba as part of a three-player deal with Anzhi Makhachkala worth £15 million in August.

Just three months on, manager Dan Petrescu now appears ready to part with the defender.

Samba will be well known to fans of both West Ham and Newcastle, having had previous stints at Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers.

The 29-year-old is said to favour a return to England where he would rejoin his family - who did not move when QPR sold him to Anzhi in January - and would reportedly happy to accept a pay cut in order to facilitate a deal.

Samba joined Russian Premier League club Anzhi from Blackburn in February 2012 before returning to the English top flight with QPR just one year later.

The DR Congo international was then sold back to Anzhi as QPR were relegated to the Championship last season.

In August, Anzhi's billionarie owner Suleyman Kerimov dramatically reduced the club's budget, having previously invested hundreds of millions of pounds in player transfers and wages.

Samba was one of several high-earners to leave the club, having made just five league appearances in his second spell in Dagestan.

The centre-back joined Dynamo in a summer deal that also brought Aleksei Ionov and Vladimir Gabulov to Moscow from Anzhi.

So Russians paid £12m, then QPR paid £12m, then Russians paid £12m before another bunch of Russians paid £15m. Given this all happened within 2 years, that's gotta be some kinda record.

I read we were signing a pre-contract with Kouyate (Anderlecht), that the deal was nearly done. I think we've got a few of these lined up already; Warner Hahn to replace the hole left by Forster, Kouyate to slip in and replace Colo, Ince to replace Jonas.

Is the Douglas that's keeping Samba out of the first team the same Douglas that Kinnear stopped us signing on a free in the Summer? And now we want to pay money sign the defender that it appears isn't as good as him. Great bit of work by JK if it is all true.

So many variables. Did the same Douglas have a clause in his contract meaning he had to play a certain number of games? Is this Douglas suited to the Russian League more than the Premier League? Does Samba have a clause meaning a lot more money has to be paid if he reaches a certain number of appearances?

Media means Garbage in Ancient Greek. Journalism gets worse every season. Did anyone else get wind of this Arsenal short-sleeve "story"?!? Do me a fcking favour, that's NEWS?!

Yeah I read that. In fact I had to read it twice to make sure I didn't miss anything. Can't believe this made the news. Anything to fill up space or provide "controversy" I suppose

Definitely not the sort of player we want, plus at 29 can't see that he fits our "profile".

I'm sure big fat Sham at the Happy Hammers would love to sign to him - it's not like he don't have form for paying way over the odds for aging has-beens or never were's - Cacapa, Geremi, Smith, Viduka

The names sound familiar.....just can't place them...

Talksh1te went on for fcking hours about it. I'd have understood if they'd been lambasting the ludicrous amount of coverage, but to actually contribute to it by "laying into" Arsenal over this was not even childish. Infantile? Yeah, that'll do.

This Kouyate from Anderlecht comes up regularly. Selling club and we've supposedly tracked him for quite some time. Only problem is he is under contract until 2016. Not really our style! I'd like to see our next central defensive signing be a commanding figure, preferably with experience of British football.

Erm. Chris Samba?
