Honest question time. We all can assume that just participating in the CL isn't the height of his ambition... so if we only manage to finish 2nd-4th in the PL, and make it to the quarterfinals of the CL, how long could we realistically keep Suarez?

I would think that even if Liverpool agree to a fee, the Suarez camp will insist on a 3 year contract, and the longest we could keep him would be 2 seasons unless we win a significant trophy.

It's a fair question but clearly you have more chance of winning the competition if you're in it, and Suarez presumably believes that Liverpool are still some way off making 4th.
We know we're not that far away from being a very decent club and having a realistic chance of winning the thing - going to Munich and winning 2-0 against a side who won the thing and are now regarded as the benchmark for all European clubs says we're not far away, Suarez and a couple of others will get us much closer.

Interesting some of the scousers are now saying they hope to get rid of suarez for 30 million abroad, not sure how many clubs would be interested, 30 million is about his real value IMO. His position is almost at the point of untenable, and can only see it getting worse. Still think they might be forced to sell to us, as Americans always take the most money, no matter what they may be saying in public.

I think they'd much prefer taking £30m from overseas compared to £40m from us, they see us as the weakest of the Champions Lge clubs and therefore the easiest to overhaul to qualify themselves, selling to us weakens them and strengthens us and pretty much guarantees they won't be finishing above us for a few years, so the only way they would get CL football is if they finish above Chelsea, Man Utd or Man City, in other words not happening....

Both the Guardian and Telegraph claiming we will make a 3rd bid for Suarez. Jeremy Wilson says we will bid close to £50M for him.

Hope so.

The thing is though - how do they know that? Where would they get this information from?

Transfer press is getting weirder and weirder. The amount of " Arsenal are considering a bid for ...." type articles is crazy.
Unless the papers have been hiring psychics for their investigating I think its safe to assume most of these type rumours are false.

Unless there has been actual contact between two clubs - It's probably just bullshit.

They have to sell him now, or risk selling him later for half the price. Suarez isn't going to be playing 100% while he's unhappy, and that can only make his value go down. I don't think Liverpool will wait until the last minute either, since they'll want to reinvest the money asap. This may be finally coming to a close.

The smart thing would be to sell him for a good price.

The thing is though I could see them being too stubborn and just refusing to sell to a 'rival'.

Rogers has dug himself a bit of a hole really saying Suarez needs to apologise. He's going to look a bit foolish now if he refuses to - which it seems like he is doing as he wants to leave.

So Liverpool are left with the choice of sell him, and lose face, or keep him in the reserves, paying a big player massive wages but not playing him. Neither is attractive for Liverpool.

Is it true that there's a standard clause in PL contracts that a player can leave for free if they don't play in a certain % of a clubs games when they are fit & available to prevent this sort of "demotion" situation? I'm sure it almost happened with Sjneider before he left Milan as he was sidelined for not taking a wage cut??

We can't really complain, most of us wanted the club to force RVP to stay another year

Suarez will put in 100% when he comes back from his ban. Just as Modric did when his forced move failed. He needs to impress Real this season. You guys really don't give up do you, what part of "he's not for sale - especially to Arsenal" do you not understand?

The part where you eventually sell him to us <ok>

In the same way that Rodgers said he wasn't looking into buying a new goalkeeper and rubbished any suggestion of Reina leaving? Nothing is ever certain, and anything can change over the next few weeks.

Although i am convinced suarez will go as it's now got to the point of no return in my opinion I really can't see him going to Arsenal - it would almost make Rodgers' position untenable and Henry will look absolutely ridiculous after what he's said. They can just about save face if he goes to a European club and I wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool have people touting him over Europe right now .

But only Arsenal have made an official bid for him. Surely if a European club wanted him, they too would have put in a bid for him by now.

maybe they have on the quiet but it suits Liverpool's Machiavellian agenda to keep it under wraps and just keep flinging dirt at Arsenal to placate their fans..

John W Henry had this to say about Torres and Reina a while ago:

'We don't want players at this club who don't want to play for us'

So it's clear that he's full of ****
