I took my boat licence in France and had a few days ruined because I’d gone to the assistance of a stranded boat. We were on our way to St Tropez, loaded up with cool boxes, picnic, etc, and a boat had broken down. We had to come alongside, hitch up two ropes and take him to the nearest suitable port, St Raphael.

It took over two hours and ruined the day but we had no choice …

… ‘Under international maritime law, you are legally obligated to help any person or vessel in peril, provided you can do so without endangering your own vessel, crew, or passengers.’

People who say we should ignore people in the Channel clearly know nothing about maritime law or how busy that shipping lane is. The RNLI have no choice in who to help or how.
Yeah good post. Ignorance of the highest order but not surprising and the disciples blindly follow. They aren’t sheep though oh no no.

I have a very good mate who is active in the RNLI and I can’t speak highly enough of him or his colleagues. Criticising people who risk their lives to save others at sea is beyond contempt.

does he also land on the beach in France to pick up Migrants or is it just the south coast ones

That's never happened and, what's more, I don't believe it ever could ...

... it would be classed as an International Incident, exactly as if the French landed in the UK.
There's that much made-up news about. Using photos from unrelated places and attaching untrue, inflammatory headlines and stories.

People can get bombarded with it on social media if the algorithms decide that's what they want to see.

Edit - plus the money chucked at circulating these things by billionaires and unfriendly states

We have other threads for this !
Anyway, one of my mates has been asked to re carpet all the boxes at the SOL via a 3rd party. Showed me some photos, very impressive, we are going to have some stadium lads & lasses
Apparently we are really going to town with the upgrades this summer

i fail to understand why they buy/build these balsa wood homes in the middle of 'hurricane world' and crown them with wafer thin shingles then appear shocked and surprised when it turns into a badly erected bonfire.
We were in Orlando when Hurricane Irma hit in 2017, we had rented a villa for a fortnight just outside of Orlando.
We were told to find a room with no windows in it and basically stay there till it passed or evacuate to a nearby school.
We decided to ride it out in the Villa, its only a bit wind and rain I said to the missus. How wrong was I !! When it 1st hit I thought I would lighten the mood of my terrified family and opened the front door which had a stone porch covering it, I opened the door and stepped into the porch and couldnt believe my eyes or ears, the trees were horizontal and the noise was deafening, I had massively under estimated the position we were in and my missus was letting me know it !! The power went out and we had about 5-6 hours of constant wind and rain, banging the lot, one of the worst nights of my life. When it passed and we went outside there was carnage, trees down on top of cars, garden furniture scattered all over the estate, a hotel along the road had partially collapsed, we were only 4 days into the holiday and thought that we would have to return home. Then the army of trucks turned up and put the whole town back to normal and by the next day everything was back up and running. I booked knowing it was hurricane season to save a few quid but never let on to the missus, shes never let me forget it.

aye they are nasty things like, never fully know how hard or where exactly they will hit, i used to talk to a few 'muricans and most had the cellar to hide in.

i just cannot understand why they don't use bricks and mortar, unless the thinking is that the wood can be easily knocked back into shape with a few fresh bits added.
