To be fair, the bit about being £6 million over the limit purely due to promotion bonuses is news to me. I just assumed it was because of regular wages and transfer fees over the last three years.

According to that same BBC article, clubs on average pay around £10-15 million in promotion bonuses upon promotion to the Premier League. If that’s anything to go by, we were probably well below the £39 million limit of acceptable losses over the last three years this season until we got promoted.
Someone mentioned this a few weeks ago, I can’t remember who but I repeated it in the last day or so and one or two people suggested that it would only be a part of the alleged £6m.

That’s odd as the BBC article said they were and even said that’s how Forest got stung as well.
The BBC have updated the article...

Initially it was believed the club's overspend had been caused by promotion bonuses which were triggered by the 1-0 victory over Boro in the Championship showdown at Wembley.

But it has since come to light that these payments are, in effect, ghosted in the accounts for the calculation in the season which the promotion happens.

Hull would have faced PSR challenges regardless of winning the play-off final.

Makes sense. I can remember Acun saying we needed to sell regardless of promotion in the Q&A before the Norwich game.

Can't be having common sense statements like that on here

Here's another novel idea, on the basis that any club exceeds its PSR limit due entirely 100% to payment of promotion bonuses, which clearly demonstrates a club is well run, then why can't common sense prevail and allow that to be an exception to the rule? Being penalised for success seems completely inappropriate and counter productive.

Seems from what the BBC are reporting it isn't just down to the promotion bonus paid to players, they've changed their stance

Presumably one for Maribor? Can't imagine an 18 year old plucked out of Brazil would be in our PL squad.

Depends, if he's like that Rayan at Bournemouth he might jump straight in. He doesn't have to be registered at that age, but he does lack experience so it'd be good to get him in early and see how he does in pre season.

If we were to get a -6 deduction, it almost makes no point in trying, we'd be better off banking most of the cash keeping the same squad, adding a few with an eye on the championship going down with **** all points then having a ridiculous transfer chest to smash the championship to pieces the season after.

What?! Six points is two wins. Most teams aim to win 10 games and then pick up draws away from home. We'd just need to win 12 out of 38 instead of 10, that's all. It's not even half. Granted that's easier said than done, but the negative six looks worse than it is in reality. It doesn't make our job of staying up any easier, but it doesn't make it impossible either.

Anyway, it's unlikely it'll happen.
