Qualifying for Europe has probably given him a nudge in our direction ...

... and I've just had it confirmed, by the club, that his contract with Sunderland terminates at the end of the month.
All player contracts run til the end of June, just standard procedure.

Looking at the list, I have highlighted the players I think we need to move on, for their benefit as much as the clubs as they aren’t going to cut it at the top level.

Ahmed Abdullahi
Simon Adingra
Omar Alderete

Milan Aleksić still young but hasn’t pushed on since signing. I was excited when we signed him as a wonder kid, however I think he needs to move on

Aji Alese
Isaac Allan, a name I do t recognise, anybody know much about this one. I assume is is a youngster just coming through.

Nilson Angulo
Abdoullah Ba , has to go, is this the last year of his contract?

Dan Ballard
Luke Bell
Brian Brobbey
Alan Browne, back to Preston on Boro, he will still do a good job at that level.

Habib Diarra
Melker Ellborg
Leo Hjelde if he counts as homegrown I might keep.

Trai Hume
Wilson Isidor
Jenson Jones
Jaydon Jones
Ben Kindon
Enzo Le Fée
Ben Metcalf
Reinildo Mandava
Arthur Masuaku, move on, not at the le el we need, back to West Ham?

Eliezer Mayenda
Simon Moore
Nordi Mukiele
Romaine Mundle
Luke O’Nien
Anthony Patterson, if we can get £12m take it and add it to the transfer kitty

Timothée Pembélé, another one with no future here.

Chris Rigg
Robin Roefs
Nazariy Rusyn, I thought he had already gone, but surplus to requirements.
Noah Sadiki
Trey Ogunsuyi
Jenson Seelt, hopefully we can get a decent fee for Seelt, it looks decent , but not at the level we are moving.

Luis Hemír, another one I thought we had already got off the books

Jocelin Ta Bi
Chemsdine Talbi
Granit Xhaka
Matty Young
Zak Johnson, he will do well in League one, by all accounts a really nice lad, but not top flight as a player.
Harrison Jones
Timur Tutierov

There may be others on that list who might go as well, any thoughts?

The way you’d written this I thought you had Omar on a ‘sell’ list.

Was about to book a flight back to uk and slap you/cuddle you.

Thought you weren’t ok.

Couldn't really disagree with any you've highlighted, but I think the club might be more ruthless

Neil will get a hefty signing on bonus as a result of this so I'm sure he won't be too angry about his agent. He appears to be quite popular as well given how many teams have been linked to him so he should manage to get himself quite a wedge.
I hope so, he's a good player, but he has hardly played for a year. But we have all been hearing about this interest for a long time, some from clubs who's name is never mentioned now.

It depends where he goes. It looks like Rangers or a Championship club.

We'll see.

Hull are in.

Be a great move for him that plays every week in the PL.

Which makes me believe he's still under his Sunderland contract.

If he'd already left he'd be no different to any other prospective signing.

I'd guess there are conditions, in his contract, that give us an advantage over other clubs ...

... not to mention we're the greatest team the world has ever seen.
Aye his loan deal with us runs to end of month, as you've said. Without seeing the small print, I would think this most likely means we have until then to trigger his "buy" clause. The fact he's not already signed indicates to me that either:

(a) SAFC aren't happy to pay the clause, or
(b) Gerty isn't sure about a permanent move, and we're trying to convince him.

Based on how the lad acted, I'm inclined to think it's (a), which means this will probably drag on until late June at least. We'll be trying to negotiate for a lower fee, Leipzig will be holding out for the full amount of the clause (and trying to scare us into it with the threat of other clubs coming in for him, from July onwards). Let's see who blinks first.

EDIT: I guess the other option is all parties are keen and we're happy to pay the clause, but Gerty wants more wages than we're willing to pay. Could put the kibosh on it.

Sunderland confirmed the departures of two of their biggest stalwarts this week - and nothing but respect should be shown towards Dan Neil and Dennis Cirkin.

⬛ Dan Neil simply lived his dream at SAFC - a Mackem through and through whose fairytale journey took him from supporter to captaining the club to the Premier League via 201 apps. A top bloke - and telling he was in the stands at the Stadium of Light to celebrate Europa League qualification. A Sunderland legend.

⚽️ Dennis Cirkin’s own SAFC journey has been unbelievable too. He’d just lost his Dad when he joined the club - but 128 appearances and two vital promotions later, leaves Sunderland with a lot of love. His social post announcing he was leaving summed him up - “Thank you. To wear this badge over 100 times has been the greatest privilege of my life.” A brilliant lad who deserves everything in football.

Best of luck to Dan Neil and Dennis Cirkin. Two of football’s good guys who in amongst the glamour of the Premier League and Europa League should always be remembered at Sunderland.
