yea, i like being a degenerate and watching every single group game
but half of this world cup is after midnight
wont be watching any of them

think thats why i have no hype
Can't you just go with the flow and head into the City Centre and revel in the extended opening hours of our fine hostelries? Mr Swinney has decreed that pubs can stay open for Scotland games and the council's have granted extended licensing hours. As an added 'bonus' he's declared a public Holiday on June the 15th(at the discretion of the company)to celebrate Scotland reaching the finals. All Scottish NHS staff,Government employees and workers in specific Council areas(Glasgow,Aberdeen,Dundee etc, etc) are guaranteed the day off...Yes,WTF?

This is the same government who conjured up the minimum alcohol pricing system and set it at 50p per unit,(now 65p a unit),because of Scotland's alcohol related health issues and the amount it costs the Scottish NHS.

Talking of NHS Scotland,my Daughter works as a G.P's receptionist and her practice will be closed on the 'extra' public holiday!!!

I have written to Mr Swinney some time ago accusing him of gross hypocrisy but I'm yet to receive a reply?

I'll struggle to stay awake for the second half of the 9pm kick offs as well. Definitely the main reason for me. But , global game and all that, can't just please a European time zone all the time.

A lot of the "smaller" nations competing are going to dumped on pretty hard by the bigger teams.

Uzbekistan, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Iran (sans Allahyar btw, what the hell), Egypt, Qatar, South Africa and the Czech Republic have squads mostly made up of players playing in their home nations, while New Zealand have Tommy Smith from Braintree Town in their squad and Haiti's first choice keeper is ex-Oldham athletic goalie Johnny Placide.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for smaller nations qualifying and having a go - they've earned the right to after all - but there has to be an understanding that unless you can call upon players in a higher standard of league, it's gonna be a monumental task to even be competitive for some of these squads.

I think that's what's making me very uninterested.

I'm pleased for some of these teams that they have qualified, but the first round is hardly going to be a spectacle is it? More group games this year than in the full 2022 tournament and some nations will get through to round 2 just by winning one game.

The first round is going to be an utter snoozefest with one sided games all over.

I think it’s great these smaller nations are in the world cup
So what if they get hammered
If you’re a young kid in Uzbekistan or Scotland or wherever it’s inspiration for them isnt it
One of the few things fifa have got right

A format where you play a whole round of games
and 32 of 48 go through is ridiculous

More games more money for FIFA I suppose , I know they do struggle financially

Makes the qualifying more meaningful if smaller counties have a realistic chance of making the final tournament

First player refused entry to the US for the World Cup, though it sounds like they still expect him to get there in the end...

The Swiss federation confirmed Breel Embolo's ESTA travel authorisation was placed under review this week, with it linking back to a 2018 court ruling.

The former Basel and Monaco man was convicted in 2023 of making multiple threats and given a suspended fine.

In a statement, Switzerland have said: Unfortunately, Breel Embolo is currently unable to travel to the United States with the team.

“His ESTA authorisation had been approved until this morning. However, at 10.30am, we were informed that his ESTA application had been placed under further review. We are currently in contact with the relevant authorities and expect that Breel will either join the team later today or travel tomorrow and join the squad then.”

Isn't qualifying designed to be a qualification and keep the final tournament more interesting though?

I mean, if Cape Verde manage to win any of their games against Spain, Uruguay or Saudia Arabia, that'd be pretty damn interesting <cheers>

In the past, qualifying WAS the tournament for smaller nations. That's kind of a shame. Let's have more giant killings!

I just think you run the risk of diluting the actual final tournament.

We must be nearing peak football fatigue - there's going to be so many games this summer I can really see this tournament feeling like its dragging on.

Having a last 1/16 is silly
Thats the extra game i think is bollocks

32 teams getting out the group is ridiculous <laugh>

I'm a huge fan of esoteric nation's football, so I'm looking forward to watching the group stage games once they're recorded. Not watching them live, **** the US government.

Seems to be a common theme going into this World Cup.

As in,I don't like Trump so I won't be watching it,don't want it,hope it falls flat on it's face...

Staggering really.

It's actually more their obvious ticketing antics with FIFA, but yeah for the same reasons I didn't watch the Qatar one, I'm not watching this one live either. If the country hosting it is a complete **** and considers me a domestic terrorist, it can **** all the way off.

I watched the first half highlights of the Canada Uzbekistan friendly. Miller played the full first half he stood out made some decent crosses, beat his man a couple of times and made a defensive contribution. Got a yellow card for been a little bit too robust.,

I can't remember anything about the last world cup to be honest .
