I thought it would be interesting to think about what our Europa League squad might look like, considering all the rules and limits on homegrown players, etc... I'll try to update this over the summer with incomings and outgoings, if people are interested.

First, a quick summary of the rules (as I understand them):

We can use a squad of up to 17 "List A" players with no restrictions, 4 additional "List A" players trained in England, and 4 more "List A" players trained by SAFC.

We can also take an unlimited number of "List B" players, being U21 players who have been eligible to play for SAFC for at least 2 years since their 15th birthday.

So, I think our current squad would be:

List A (Unrestricted)

1. Roefs
2. Ellborg
3. Mukiele
4. Alderete
5. Geertruida (if he stays)
6. Reinildo
7. Hume
8. Xhaka
9. Sadiki
10. Diarra
11. ELF
12. Angulo
13. Talbi
14. Brobbey
15. Isidor
16. Traore
17. Ta Bi

List A (Association trained)

1. Ballard
2. LON
3. Mundle
4. Moore(?)

List A (Club trained)

No eligible players (besides youngsters not ready for the first team).

List B (U21, club trained)

1. Rigg
2. Mayenda (I think he qualifies, someone correct me if wrong)

I was pleasantly surprised. It looks like we can actually get all of our current first teamers in the squad, even with zero qualifying "club trained" players.

We're right at the limit, though, so it will have to be "1 in, 1 out" this summer by the looks of it... The exception being, we can recruit one more English-trained player if we don't include Moore in the squad.

Anyway, I found it interesting, sorry if nobody else gives a **** <laugh>

Considering we will need to expand the first team squad by at least 4 players in order to deal with the schedule, I'd expect some of these to miss out of the Euro squad, for example someone more on the fringe side like Jocelin Ta Bi might be considered for domestic comps only, hard decisions ahead for RLB.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how they navigate it.

Side note, I've changed my name and profile pic so you lot don't have to see Moyes' ugly mug whenever this thread gets updated <laugh>

You noticed how our Regis looks a few years younger after this season?

Looks like a man incredibly comfortable in what he’s doing, content, relaxed.

Moyes, not so much. Face like a bairns drawing.

Great opener as gives the context of where we have gaps etc

Of List A1 I suspect we trade up on Traore. If we do so with an FA trained player, that creates a gap for another midfielder to be Xhaka ‘s understudy/supersub

Of List A2, I suspect Mundle goes. Moore has signed so he stays there, and maybe we then don’t need both Ellborg and Roefs in the A1 squad. Can we bring in an FA trained left back & right-sided left footer?

List B - Harrison Jones, Abdullahi, Ogunsunyi may all get a shout in there, esp if Mayenda moves on.

Either way, trust to see what the club does.

Good points. I missed the Moore extension, had assumed he'd be off so updated the OP.
