He has a chance in my opinion, his problem right now is we can't risk putting him in when every game is a fight for points and externally he is a relative unknown to clubs outside of ours, he can thrive in an expansive League One team, I don't see a Championship team putting him in, not because he isn't good enough but because the ones with thinner squads are fighting for their lives and again, he is a relative unknown.
I just think at 20 yr old, if we cant trust him and would be a risk to champ teams - I dont see how he could have a league 1 season that would propel him into our first team or even a top champ team

Has some good attributes but I don't even think he has settled position yet

There are a lot of factors to consider, we could get relegated, we could get European qualification. Both of those potentially open up a slot for him. There are other scenarios we can't envisage right now that can open up a slot for him.

Yeah true, just think even if we did go down I dont believe he is a player that will be contributing to a promotion chasing championship team

Hopefully the kid proves me wrong, great attitude and filled in well in the friendly against sporting - I wonder if the route for some of these multi skilled CM's is to drop into full back positions just look at the boy lewis skelly

Is it not a tad early to be making a prediction like that about him?

Yep it's def too early imo, he does need to go and get minutes to improve his all round game

I think he's at the age now, plus in the last yr of his contract, where he needs 1st team minutes. I don't see the point in keeping him around the squad if he's hardly going to feature for us as I don't think that's the right thing for his development

It’s incredible to see how little people need to see players before making big judgements on them …

… it’s an easy game to play though, write them off then later on say they’ve developed as you thought they might.

Even going back to Roker there was always someone who trot out,
‘He’ll never make a football player while I've got a hole in my arse!’

The coaches must look at these forums and roll their eyes.

I agree the lad needs minutes and games. Interesting he was picked at full back the other evening, makes you wonder if the coaches have seen something to suggest he would be better there than midfield?

I think it sums up how much hes trusted as well. I dont see him as a fullback but he played well both games so maybe he can develop into that role.

I've been impressed with hin when I've seen him, I'm not sure what his level will be - at the minute I'm leaning towards Championship level CM but that can easily change

Players develop at different rates but I do feel its a really important season for Jones, he must get experience playing most weeks and I cant see him getting that here. Probably a L1 loan would be good for him or a top of L2 move

I just think if you are good enough at 20 you are getting minutes here or somewhere else - we were always looking at the top prem young players to try and pinch Alese, Cirkin etc. is anyone going for Jones - Maybes maybe not

Really hope im wrong - The difference is im not professing to always be right and defend their point like some do on here :emoticon-0136-giggl

Its all guesswork and opinion as most is in life

I’ve said since last season I don’t think Harrison Jones will make it here. It’s just an early prediction, hopefully wrong and he does the business

BUMP

I'd like to get some thoughts on Harrison Jones, it looks like his contract is up this summer but the club have a +1 year option should they wish to enact it.

He only managed one appearance for the first team this season, which was in the cup against Preston, down from the 6 appearances he made last season, he will also be classed as an overage player for the u21s should he be kept on, which is something the club do not routinely do.

I rate the player quite highly, he looks head and shoulders above the competition when I've watched him for the u21s, he looks very comfortable in possession, which makes sense when you know he has spent the bulk of 2 seasons training with the first team. If there is a critique it seems he's a bit of a shy lad and you can see this when he played in the first team, leaning heavily on instruction from senior players and most of his passing and positioning being conservative compared with the more dynamic play he does for the u21s.

I'm a strong believer in timing and circumstance being big factors on footballers careers and I think this is a player with a high ceiling who could get lost in the weeds if we let him go, and I know he isn't the clubs responsibility once his contract is up but personally I'd like to see us renew him and try to get him a loan next season. Thoughts?

I dont see the downside to be honest, hes clearly rated by the staff.

He ticks a home grown box and will probably get more games in the cups and the lesser european games or we get him a decent loan and he really kicks on

I think extending his contract probably holds him back. He won’t start in Europa or premier league. If we extend it’s probably strategic in order to get a nominal fee- it all counts now.
