Has anyone else read Louise’s piece in The Guardian about Claire’s transfer to Barca. The girl is showing her colours, and some of the comments are proper studs up!.

It was good reading Gordon's comments again, about how Newcastle are better than Sunderland.

“Sunderland are not a very good team compared to us,” said Gordon, who had given Newcastle a 10th minute lead. “We shouldn’t lose to them. They were doing a man-for-man press, but with two players always marking me so we had a spare man. But we didn’t ever find him. That’s one of the easiest things to do but we never used that advantage.”

So they knew exactly what we were doing, and how to counteract it. But they couldn't execute it. And that makes them a good TEAM? <laugh>

I've no idea if this is correct, but,if so, I think KLD should acquire our Council share and mount a takeover for the rest of it. When that's complete,he should rename it "The Wear Tyne Airport"and make it illegal to wear a Mag top in any of the airport buildings.
What a sight that would be!

But yes, those are the facts. Around the turn of the century, the councils sold that 49% share, before which it was owned entirely by them. This enabled the expansion and improvements seen since.

And Gordon saying he was double marked so expected someone else to do what he couldn't ...

... as if no other player in the PL is ever double marked.

Not sure whether to put this in here or in the Off The Field Operations thread. Class from the club though putting all over the airport

Wasn’t the club mate. It’s the council who did it as they own more of the airport than the Newcastle council. Still superb of them (I know a few working for the council)

Well if you think about it, this is only reasonable.

The Airport is owned 49%/51%.

The 49% is a UK infrastructure fund, and a Spanish Airport operator. The 51% is the seven local authorities. Of that 51%, Sunderland City Council is known to have, at about 19%,

What a sight that would be!

Wasn’t double marked at the SOL.

He just bottled the game after Nordi ran through him early doors.

Whoppa.

Two things about his comment.

He is 100% the type to believe they are automatically better and going to win "cause Newcastle is better than Sinderland" no more needed than that for their fans and they always seem to sign players who have ego's and think the same.

Look how many talked about "can't wait to beat Sunderland" in an arrogant way that it was a forgone conclusion, inevitable!

Compare that to our lads who were humble all season talking about the next match and never thinking they had a right to win before even turning up!

Secondly he is also one who would lick their arses while there. So has to say Sunderland are not even good minutes after being beat by Sunderland!

Even if he was double marked, maybe their problem was that Woltemade was the spare man. Couldn't do anything even if he was on his own. (well, he did manage one thing )
Was also thinking, if Gordon is classed a £69 million player, how's that for Nordi's and the defence's confidence that they nullified such a player so easily in 2 games

The derbies were funny in the way they panned out.

The Mags clung onto the idea that 'we'd only beaten them with the help of an OG'.

So, when we handed them a virtual OG, in the away game, that blew away their argument.

The difference was that we had the team spirit, and skill, to fight back and win the game.

The only argument they had left was that they were tired ...

... ignoring the effect AFCON had on us and the injuries we had at SJP.

It's just so funny watching them squirm.

The fact they overrated themselves is why they had a **** season.

They have 5 good players and many heartless ones.

Their heroes have let them down all season starting with Isak who they insisted wouldn't desert them.

Then, one by one, players like Gordon, Tonali, etc, started making it clear that Newcastle isn't where they want to be.

That's a problem in itself but it creates another bigger problem ...

... how does Howe attract replacements and get rid of the likes of Woltemade and Wissa?

Looking like Tonali is going United so even his ‘homesick’ line was bluster.

He is 100% leaving my pal knows the lass who does his cleaning and she’s been told show isn’t needed after June.
