He's had his critics on here the last 12 months but proven them wrong... Plenty were commenting on how he didn't know how to run a football club.. whoever suggested to him to pay up wages-wise and sign McBurnie deserves a medal and what a debut season in the English/Welsh leagues for Jakirovic.. Incredible..

What a guy. Mad as a box of frogs but as I've said a few times he was exactly what this club needed when he took it over. After the doom and gloom of the Allams and the way they taught us not to expect or believe, and put so many people off going, he breathed life into the club, restoring crowds to an extent nobody thought possible at the time. We've quickly got used to regular 20,000+ crowds again and now he's gone a step further and delivered the promotion back to the big time.

I think it's clear how important his perception in Turkey is to him and he's had a lot of stick there. I've been in Turkey and spoken to people who think he's a bit of a joker and a chancer, and they told us City would go nowhere with him. I'm there again in a few weeks and I'll be able to proudly say he delivered everything we dreamed of. As well as other people I'm so pleased for him that he's done this and no one can question it now.

only kidding.
I don't need to. :emoticon-0105-wink:
Over the moon for him.

Aaah, so we were meeting financial obligations and didn't nearly get relegated after all.

Just part of his genius.

But fair play to him.

He's made significant changes, both to his approach and structurally within the club and he's been rewarded. On-balance, deservedly so.

Good point. A required change of approach could be the best thing that came out of it all. It forced the change that led to Saturday. Ajun deserves the prem for his commitment to the Club and his dream. As Eric Morcombe once said “ he’s making all the right decisions but not necessarily in the right order”.

I’ve got to say that I’ve always had a suspicion that Acun would say whatever it took to win people over. The pulling the pints, taking fans on holiday, talking about one family. Despite my suspicion I’ve always liked him and not shared the views of those on this forum who wrote about him being broke, looking to sell, being a wide boy, treating the club like a play thing etc. I think this season has crystallised the fact that he genuinely loves this club, its staff, players and fans and has a proper long term vision for our future. He appears to have learned from his mistakes culminating in playing his hand at the beginning of the season to perfection, which it had to be, in order to achieve promotion. My suspicions are lifted, I think he is the real deal. He has a connection to the club and fans that few owners achieve. Acun, please don’t take any rides in a helicopter…..

I never thought Acun was a bad guy, or that he was financially inept or any of the other sort of hyperbole we had last summer.

What I thought was that he is a stereotypical Turk in business, wheeling and dealing, flying as close to the limits as possible, which can bite you in the arse if one thing goes wrong, such as a late payment from another club meaning we were late fulfilling our obligations as we didnt have the cash to hand.

Football clubs aren't a standard business, where you can make arrangements on the fly, there are set rules to follow, and we messed up and paid the price by being out under embargo. Ironically, this probably worked in our favour in the end.

Despite that, his heart was in the right place and he had a clear passion for the club, and a burning desire to see us succeed. After firing Rosenior and Selles, there was uproar, but we can't stand here today and argue that he made the wrong decision, as Sergej is tremendous.

City are now back in the PL, and Acun has some very rich friends which may now allow us to push on in a way that we never have been able to before.

It's never dull in 'Ull. UTFT

<laugh> Is it bad that I spat my tea out and laughed out loud at the last bit? Just came out of nowhere, wasn't expecting it

Acun is just what we needed as an owner. He has got it right as far as the support is concerned.
But I don’t like football club ownership by an individual.
At least Acun thanks his team and the staff for making it a success this season.
Their attention to detail is outstanding.
The Fer Ark pub takeover was a marvellous bit of engagement.
The socials from the club strike the right note time and time again.
We needed a leader like Acun and now we just have to ride the rollercoaster of the PL.

It was a brave decision to sack Roseinor when he did and he must have had some niggling doubts when Liam was then recruited by Chelsea.
I had my doubts last summer too, the stories circulating about unpaid bills, then the transfer embargo following a season when we only escaped relegation on goal difference, I thought here we go again and I've heard and seen all this before at City, another chancer.
In fact I'd never felt so low and disappointed about City since the Fish and maybe the Sheffield Mafia days as I did before this season kicked off. I will add the name change fiasco and subsequent fans v owners fall out to that.
But Acun has earned my respect and he steadied the ship when we could have so easily have sunk without trace and left himself with severely burnt fingers.
To get us back into the Premier League on the back of all that is a monumental achievement.
Our future is bright if we do not squander this opportunity. No knee jerk reactions and stop gap mercenary signings, no rash decisions, no frittering away of the money.
We need to see something from this visit to the top table, as long or as short as it may be,
This is our chance.
4th time lucky perhaps?
This is our time.
To top this season off it would be a marvellous gesture in the Council made Acun a freeman of the City of Hull.
Because where we stand today with the World's media upon us, it is richly deserved.

I’m always cynical about owners, and their backgrounds and motives, and can’t see myself ever wanting one to wave at me…but he’s very difficult to dislike as an individual, and genuinely seems to get the relationship between team and fans, and acts like a fan anyway.
On the Fer Ark thing, I agree that was a great thing. Great to come round the corner to that noise and have a place to drink with like minded people.
Was that arranged by the club or kicked off by the Southern Supporters? I couldn’t remember if that was where they meet to watch games sometimes?
I know OSC were involved and presumably the club helped fund the changes because it was very well done I thought (the signage particularly)
Happy to go there again next time…
