So, assuming we lose the appeal and are in the Championship next season, who will still be here from the playing staff?

Current squad with my thoughts on if they will be here with a simple Yes/No and summary by position.

GK
Peretz - No
McCarthy - Yes
Bazunu - Yes
Jones - No
Ramsdale - No

Can’t see Peretz signing permanently if we are in the Championship next season, especially with the new financial rules coming in and us likely having to pay out loads in legal costs/compensation. Think because of the huge turnover in this position we will extend McCarthy for another year just so we have 2 experienced keepers on the books, and look to sign a new number 1.

LB
Manning - Yes
Welington - Yes
Taylor - No
Larios - No

For a lot of these “yes” opinions it does depend on how the player has viewed the whole Spygate thing. Neither Manning or Welington are going to have PL interest in my opinion, but both would be wanted by Champ teams. If they are pissed off enough (HPOAY) and want out then I can see them forcing moves to Birmingham/Wrexham type sides. If not then I can see them both being here. Taylor we won’t renew his contract, and if we do then we’ll know early on we have no money and are building a squad on the cheap. Larios will get a move somewhere

CB
THB - No
Stephens - Yes
Wood - Yes
Quarshie - No (loan)
Kayi-Sanda - No (loan)

Again think Wood falls into the HPOAY category. No way THB is here and will go to M’Boro after they are promoted. Think Quarshie will want to leave because of a lack of game time, most likely a loan and JKS feels logical to loan again. He could be a starter next season though with others leaving ahead of him

RB
Bree - Yes
Jelert - No
Roerslev - Yes
Sugawara - No

Bree another who might just leave on a free if he’s pissed off and get another Champ club to sign him, he won’t be short of offers from mid table Champ sides and above. Jelert we won’t make permanent, and Roerslevs injuries means nobody will want him. Sugawara will get a move somewhere

CM
Charles - No
Jander - No
Downes - Yes
Smallbone - Yes
Aribo - No
Bragg - Yes

Think there is no chance Jander and Charles are here, Downes in the HPOAY category. Due to turnover can see us extending Smallbone (think he has a one year extension clause in his contract). If we extend Aribo then we know we are ****ed, Bragg will stay to continue developing, unless some PL team have spotted something in him and come in for him, which I think unlikely.

RW
Fellows - Yes
Matsuki - Yes

Both in the HPOAY category for me

AM
Azaz - Yes

Would say he is in the HPOAY category but he is just isn’t very good so think we are his ceiling even if we are mid table Champ going forward (which is what I expect)

LW
Scienza - No
Edozie - Yes
BBD - No
Robinson - Yes

No way Scienza stays, BBD could stay due to depth on the wings, but think it’s more likely he gets a fresh start. Can see both Edozie and Robinson staying.

ST
Stewart - No
Larin - No
Archer - No
Downs - Yes

Think Stewart will want out after this, but is in the HPOAY category, and has an easy out with his contract. Larin I think will not sign permanently due to this and probably having other options here/abroad. Too much noise about Archer wanting out in Jan to think the second half of the season has made much difference to him wanting to leave. Downs will return as he won’t have any other suitors, could go out on loan again but as we won’t have a striker at the club according to this then it depends on who we recruit.

So yeah that’s my take on the squad next year.

TL:DR think it’s very likely we lose 10+ players who played significant amount of games this season. How we replace them and how much money we have to replace them is the key to next season

Let me know what you think

I think I was depressed enough before.

Now we pretty much have a lower half championship team at best.

We are hardly going to be a career destination of choice going forward.

We won't have a fire sale from this - people may be more open to moves and teams may offer less to see if they can grab a bargain but we'll still have better finances than the majority of the league so don't "have" to sell and we will still offer a better chance than most of promotion, wages, etc etc.

We'll see movement but I don't think we'll see many more move than would have anyway if we failed to get promoted.

I think the worst thing about that whole post is:

'Bazunu - yes'

This HPOAY category is amusing to me mainly at the sides being suggested as players “forcing” moves to. Namely ones who we finished ahead of and who would be having to push the boat out to match wages and the like

If the suggestion is that they would force moves to premier league relegation fodder when otherwise they might have stayed then that would be different

MID
• Cam Bragg
• Kuryu Matsuki

Players like Bree and Stewart are out of contract and could be annoyed enough at this to not renew if we offer them a deal. They need to make their decision in like a month and who knows if they will be over this by then, or just want a fresh start away from the club.

The others I see your point, but with the new financial ruling I think teams like Wrexham and Birmingham could match their wages and they might just want out given what’s going on.

We also don’t know the finances inside the club. 85% of turnover is the new ruling, I’d be surprised if we aren’t overspending that already, and you’d think breaking another rule next season is something the club will be desperately trying to avoid now Spygate has happened.

I actually don't see how as a player you can give everything or play in the same way when everything you did was for nothing thanks to a situation out of your control. This will bring the futility of playing football home to roost! Those who were playing and who stay I just cannot see reaching those levels any longer.

Is it too much of a stretch to think Larin stays? His release clause is apparently only a few million, and he seemed to enjoy his football here.

Much more likely than Peretz but still pretty unlikely I'd say.

Yeah I’m also looking forward to the club announcing they are delighted to have secured a new long term contract with Gavin Bazunu.

What is HPOAY?
