If it wasn't for his injuries I'd be happy to keep Smallbone too. Sadly though I think he's one of those who'll always get injured a lot.

For sure, he’s been v unlucky. That said, I think he can make a comeback.. if Ross can, anyone can!

More I think of it too.. club have shown so much faith in Ross to get him to his first ever World Cup. I think he’ll repay the faith you know

Also not a bad shout tbh. So a hopeful spine of XI next season? (Of course we’ll add signings).

McCarthy
Bree, Wood, Stephens, Manning
Bragg, Smallbone,
Fellows, Azaz, Edozie,
Stewart

Would be fairly happy if we keep all these as a starting point tbh

More like

Bazunu
Roerslev, JSK. Stephens, Taylor
Bragg, Smallbone
Fellows, Azaz, Edozie
Downs

Haha no doubt… gotta try stay positive though. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if Ross sticks about. It’s a lot for a club to spend that much on him and persevere for 2 seasons worth of injuries

Only problem I see is if he has a good world cup

McCarthy has spent what feels like half of this season injured. Not sure he’s even much use as a no.2 anymore and I reckon if he doesn’t get another contract with us he’ll just retire.

Maybe, as I said earlier it depends how ****ed off the players are about Spygate. Players like Stewart and Bree have an easy out in a months time with their contracts expiring, wouldn’t surprise me if they are angry as **** right now and with such a short turn around to sort out a new deal I can easily see them just saying **** it and moving on. It’s not like both wouldn’t have offers from decent clubs and we are a significantly better option than they would get elsewhere (like with Bazunu for example).

One potential saving grace will be from a human level, eg they/their families love living in the area/house/school/friends so they want to stay

For sure, hard to know right now. Guess just gotta see what the club put out as exactly what has gone on here. Nothing to hide now, may as well make the FA’s job as easy as possible and throw those that ****ed us, right under the bus where they belong!

We should be doing everything in our power to extend Stewart and Bree’s contracts asap. I can’t see any Prem clubs coming in for them, and with the current squad we stand as good a chance as any for promotion. We need to take action to prevent things from spiralling, and securing these two would help with that.

Smallbone and Azaz in the same team is the stuff of nightmares. I’d cash in on Azaz to be honest.

Quite honestly whoever wants out can just **** off if they don't want to stay and fight for the fans.
I think that we may be a bit pleasantly surprised by the end of August what the starting XI might look like.
There is no way that Bazunu will be in goal (we will sign a new GK), I think that Bree, Downes, Stewart, Fellows, Azaz, Matsuki and Manning will still be here and possibly Larin permanently.
There is a bond between the players and fans that has built and with the right manager and a few good signings we could be right in the promotion shake up again next season.

I can see Smallbone staying and doing a job. He came through the youth structure and Championship might be his level. If Stewart scores a few in the WC, he might increase his value - shame he's out of contract but a little reflected glory would be nice given all the cr*p we've been put through. I don't know if we've got anyone else at the WC.

If we go for a clean sweep approach, Parker as manager might get a tune out of the squad. I'd lean into the "everyone hates us" angle and build a fortress mentality.

We're going to struggle to find a goalie as good as Peretz. He must have saved us about 6 points this season.

I understand people's negativity but there is no ****ing we any of the squads listed here will be close to our starting XI.

We are still easily one of the biggest clubs, with the one of the largest budgets and possess amongst the best facilities in the division.

I'd be amazed if the doom sale actually takes place. Jander, THB and Peretz are the only ones I'd be 90% sure would move on. Everyone else I can see staying. KWP stayed 2 years longer than anyone thought and he's bench warmed for a club that got relegated. Being a top championship performer is not the pre requisite to being a top Premier league performer.

Oh and resigning Aribo and Smallbone would be a a bigger issue to me than Spygate <laugh>

If I was him I would break ties and move on, he has never been appreciated by a lot of Saints fans and will probably get offers from other Championship clubs.
