They’ll just get slapped with a fine and possibly a ban for the manager and some of the coaching staff. What else can they do at such a short notice.
The game will go ahead, can't see how it won't. Big points deduction for me, start them on -20 points, and big compensation to all clubs who might have been affected.

I suspect some deal might emerge. Southampton threatened with relegation to League One, not just denial of play off place, on the basis of systematic spying over several matches. But they agree to waive that draconian punishment as long as Southampton accept forfeit of first leg and 3-0 award to Boro, and points deduction and fine.

Rupert Lowe got out whilst he can. Bigger fish to fry now.

Say for the sake of argument, the final date was moved to facilitate investigations/ replays/ replacement - how late could it be reasonably held from the point of view of formulating the fixture lists and team recruitment: the finalists already have reduced opportunities to get in new players?

My thinking is that for all sorts of reasons (stadium schedule and player availability to start with), the match has to go ahead on Saturday. 3 or 4pm would work for both (all?) teams. Just put the bloody tickets on sale

But because they haven’t confirmed it yet, EFL are creating all this uncertainty about who the team playing us will be - and even if it goes ahead at all. Just say it’s Saints v Tigers, 4pm, sanctions against Saints tbc. Boro and Wrexham lawyers to take it up with Saints lawyers.

23rd May.

The World Cup starts on the 11th June. You can't expect teams to have players available beyond then at short notice.

Surely they can’t move it at all this close to end of season. Some players will be out of contract, some international players are wanting to get off to their World Cup training camps, Wembley availability, policing etc etc. Is not quite a cup final but is still pretty big.

My two penneth….

I guess I hadn’t been taking the spygate advantage angle that seriously until I just read a post from a Millwall fan that resonated.

Basically, he said that if Millwall had known in advance (via spying) that we were going to go five at the back on Monday night they would have set up their starting 11 very differently. As such, the outcome of the game could have been very different.

If the investigation finds this spying business has been a systemic practice since Ekhert took charge then Southampton deserve everything coming their way.
