Hull City could be declared champion before taking to the field in the final match...The England Football Association could make this decision at any moment...
The more I think about this it could be the easiest solution for the EFL, promote us and let Saints and Boro fight it out in Court. But as OLM and Howden said the EFL make a **** ton of money from the Final so would need to justify not playing it. Its very unlikely even though it could be the easiest way out for them.

Best scenario for us is the game against Saints goes ahead.

We win, we go up and then the EFL punishes them by giving them a 40 point deduction for next season.

We lose, they go up with an asterisk next to their name and then a week later the final is declared a forfeit in favour of a 3-0 win to City. They still get a 40 point deduction for next season.

Further to this, big Steve Gibson of Boro, Ryan Reynolds and a host of other club owners drown Southampton in litigation.

If it happens that Southampton beat us(they won’t) & subsequently disqualified the likelihood is that they’d only relegate 2 teams meaning WH/Spurs would be reprieved.

I think they will very much have it on their mind and I am sure City are letting them know that our supporters are booking transport and hotels.

On this occasion I feel for the EFL, they are in a very difficult situation, whatever they decide is going to really annoy a lot of people, potentially leading to court action. Lets be honest, it is not the Saints fans fault their boggle eyed manager is a cheating twerp. They have done what we have done and booked trains, potentially hotels, in good faith. If Boro get there they are going to be left with pretty much expensive hotel options due to them already rising due to demand.

It is a nightmare situation for the EFL. What they should have done, in hindsight, is postpone the second leg and got it sorted before that was played. As people are pointing out, a 3-0 win to Boro as punishment at least gives Soutampton a chance to overturn it.
Very true. In an ideal world they would like a much longer timescale to investigate the incident comprehensively and leave no stone unturned.
They have been pushed into a bit of a corner and whatever they decide will upset people.
Evidence re credit card use and the tracking of a mobile phone movement and content could take a long time.

If you get a ticket Ric I will meet you on the concourse and buy you a drink.

Maybe he booked leave?
But the main point is, what did he do with the footage? Are we expected to believe he filmed their training, and potentially other clubs as well, and didn't share that with the manager or any of the coaching team. I suspect the delay in Southampton's response is them trying to decide if it's worth trying to make that argument.
The Sun think that the manager may be banned for the play-off final.
If they tried to get an advantage by spying on the opposition, they should ban the manager and all the coaching staff from the touchline. Let the ghost of Lawrie McMenemy decide on subs.

It makes you wonder how many other training sessions Southampton have been spying on. How much info you can get from a bloke with a camera standing behind a tree I'm not sure but Southampton have had some impressive results these last 20 games or so including their 1-5 away win at Wrexham. A big fine, 12 points deduction and a handicap of -4 goals in the play-off final seems fair enough to me.

Give Boro and Wrexham a one off semi final on Tuesday.

Winner plays us in the final at 3pm next Sat. Sorted.
Not really a good solution we could lose to a Team that lost the semi or a Team that never even qualified we would be the only legit Team to qualify for the final.

They’ll just get slapped with a fine and possibly a ban for the manager and some of the coaching staff. What else can they do at such a short notice.
