Made me wonder if people are really that desperate for £250 quid that they would sell a bit of family history.

Hull Paragon Interchange could soon be home to a new 'high-quality' bar, Hull City Council has revealed. The council is to award two city centre grants as part of wider regeneration works at Hull Paragon Interchange. Hull Tap Ltd is set to be awarded £315,000 for works to the former ticket office and hall in the station to be converted it into a high-quality bar.Refurbishment works will be carried out in keeping with both the heritage and listed status. Funding would come from the government-backed city centre grants scheme which would see Hull Tap bring back into use 600sqm of unused floor space and create 15 full-time equivalent jobs. The ticket hall is currently vacant, with plans including leather and hardwood fixed seating for around 150 customers, whilst a new bar counter will be built in the former ticket office. The former ticket office is currently occupied by WHSmith, which will vacate the premises. Additional government funding will be allocated to keep WHSmith within Hull city centre, with £146,250 going to WHSmith Travel Holdings Limited. This will enable it to relocate to the vacant unit on the opposite side of the station’s concourse, next to Costa Coffee. The council says that both projects are estimated to see nearly £1m of private capital invested into the station and additional inward investment is being made into Hull Paragon Interchange.
Much needed.. couldn’t believe it when I got there recently & couldn’t get a beer. Must be the only main station in Europe without a pub
.. Hope its better spent then the £300k the council gave to the people behind Papa's fish and chip shops to open up a franchise of Wendys on Jameson Street selling takeaway burgers. Hull City Centre needed that, a matter of yards for McDonalds like a hole in the head. Actually a tap house in the railway station is a good idea. Shame the adjoining hotel isn't full of tourists and visitors to the city who might actually use it.
Few years back me and the wife had a train cancelled on us, so decided to go to the hotel bar for a beer to kill 30 mins til the next train. We were turned away because the bar was for guests only.
Hopefully something Luke can address (unless it's been contracted for another x years). Using a station hotel (or any hotel for that matter) in a city centre - it's beyond crazy.
Part open soon, fully finished later this year. Open door. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Exactly the same happened to me, I ended up in a pub on analby road, horners maybe??? It was rough as ****!! The mirror in the toilet was made from kitchen foil. Proper old school **** hole, I quite enjoyed it tbh!!!
Me too. Barmaid lit a cig up behind the bar when I went in whilst waiting for a train. Only then I noticed a couple of other people smoking in the pub. Only time I've seen that since the smoking ban was a pub on commercial road in London.
