Reminds me of this maths puzzle...

Three friends chip in £10 each to buy a leaving present for a colleague. The present comes to £25 pounds leaving £5 change.
Each of the three friends takes back £1 each meaning they have paid £9 each, and the remaining £2 goes in the charity tin.

3 x £9 = £27, plus the £2 charity donation = £29. Where's the other pound gone?

I hope you know the answer to this, it's got me stumped.

I've been considering it on and off for years and never came up with anything approaching an acceptable answer!
It is a good one. I think the crooks of it is that 30-29 = 1 but that's irrelevant really.

Each person has paid £9 which gives a total of £27
27 minus 25 (for the present) is £2 which goes in the charity tin
