Yeah I remember thinking at the time it was an odd reason. Won't be many going either way I wouldn't have thought
In what sense? It gives more time to get back before Christmas.
Or do you mean in terms of the time of day you'd get back?
Syd seems to think taking a day off work to get to Bristol for a night game and getting back about 4 in the morning is better for the fans than going down and back the same day on a Saturday. More time to get back before Christmas? How far does he think it is?

I'm aware that a night game makes it more inconvenient for our fans to get back at a reasonable time, I'm merely quoting the reason they gave at the time, being that it gives fans an extra day before Christmas rather than travelling down and back on the 23rd. I didn't make the decision to change the date..
I wasn’t suggesting you thought it was a good idea.
It’s just that if they did say it was changed to help fans travel they were talking bollocks.
It’s not just the time of day you get back, although that is bad enough. It’s the reduced travel options for Friday night games. No trains run after night games so it’s driving or coaches for one of the longer away trips. Bristol on roads, or vice versa, is a crap journey
Having done that journey often I can guarantee they'll be at least one long motorway diversion, on a good night, on the way home. I can also guarantee the diversion will be set up for hgv's to avoid smaller villages, adding further time to the journey home.

There's a full schedule of games on Saturday, all involving fans travelling distances, if they choose to. Why should ours have been picked out for special treatment?
Yep agree, it seems quite weird. Was announced the same time the home game was moved so seems as if it was done in conjunction for whatever reason.
It could be that Bristol were given the option of changing their home game against us when their game at the MK was moved because of the FC game. Gives them a bit more time before the next game though it doesn’t help the away team. The fact that both fixtures were moved just 5 days after the fixture list came out in June is what I find surprising.
I think it is something along these lines. But surely it does help us as well as them? We both have an extra day to prepare for the boxing day match against our respective opponents.
I think it’s a bit odd that City are at home on Good Friday and Rovers v Hull on same day.
City and Bristol was moved because both the Hull FC game and City's game were both due to kick off at the same time on the same pitch / MKM - Rovers and Hull FC are due to play at Rovers ground at a different time so no conflict - having said that I have 30 minutes to get across Hull to the MKM as I'm due to see both games
Here's Bristol City's take on it at the time - I think the moved fixture because 1, to reciprocate but also 2, they thought they would get a bigger attendance if they avoided the last main shopping day before Christmas -------
Bristol City’s 2023/24 home and away Sky Bet Championship fixtures against Hull City will both now be played on Friday nights.
The Robins were due to travel to the MKM Stadium on Saturday, August 26th (3pm) but, due to a scheduling conflict at the East Yorkshire venue, the fixture will now be played on Friday, August 25th (7:45pm).
City’s reverse fixture against the Tigers has also switched from Saturday, December 23rd (3pm) to Friday, December 22nd (7:45pm) in the lead up to the festive period.
Ticket information will be release in the build-up to both fixtures.

Personally I’m chuffed to bits that it’s being played on Friday as I’m at work on the Saturday so I wouldn’t have seen it, plus it gives us an extra day of recuperation for the Boxing Day game. What’s not to like?
