After what seems to be a lifetime in Power, the Tory Party seems to have had its day.

No shock there, it happens to all Governments.

In time, and opposition, sanity will break out and The Party will start to claim 'The Middle Ground', where the majority of the electorate reside.

How long they stay in opposition will of course depend on Labour.
IF, and it's a huge IF, they can curtail their unruly left-wing members and have a broadly 'centrists' PM much like Wilson, Callaghan or (said reluctantly,) Blair they should get a decent run at it.

Then complacency and disunity creeps back in and it's a case of 'off we go again.

That's been the traditional way. I'm not sure it applies these days though - the biggest impediment to Labour regaining power since 2015 has been, well, Labour. They've consistently demonstrated that they're not really any kind of improvement even as the Tories have declined.

I've said it before - their campaign slogan appears to be 'hold my beer'. Every time there's a Tory cock-up, as certain as the sun coming up there's a Labour attempt to outdo it. If they were deliberately self-sabotaging, it would be hard to tell the difference.

Rwanda government: We take issue with this ruling
Minutes after that ruling, the Rwanda government has issued this statement, saying it "takes issue" with being defined as a territory that is not a safe third country.

Here is the statement in full:

"This is ultimately a decision for the UK’s judicial system.

"However, we do take issue with the ruling that Rwanda is not a safe third country for asylum seekers and refugees, in terms of refoulement. Rwanda and the UK have been working together to ensure the integration of relocated asylum seekers into Rwandan society.

"Rwanda is committed to its international obligations, and we have been recognized by the UNHCR and other international institutions for our exemplary treatment of refugees.

"Throughout this legal process we’ve been busy continuing to deliver progress for Rwandans, and working together with international partners to solve some of the biggest challenges that Africa and the wider the world faces.

"We take our humanitarian responsibilities seriously, and will continue to live up to them."

I think this is all being driven by demographic changes, because of that I see things only escalating and not returning to anything resembling a sensible middle. Labour will win the next election, peoples fears will not be addressed, what comes after that is anyones guess.

Personally I think Labour winning the election will trigger a coup against Starmer almost immediately.

Maybe, i feel like most new Labour voters don't like him and most old Labour voters think he's better than the alternatives. Personally I think he's an archetypal polititian, he says what he thinks he needs to say to win as much support as possible.

I am going to try for a modeat defence of govts generally, not so much the tories. Labour have faced the same anomolies in the past.

When inflation was soaring Labour and large parts of the media were screaming Tory imcompetence. In part they were right, in terms of the ridiculous Truss budget. But when some suggested global factors were at play too it was shouted down because the narrative didnt fit the agenda of tory incompetence.

Now the target has been met the tories get no credit as it was never in their control in the first place. Again this horribly skewed to the narrative of tory incompetence. Tory incompetence is as clear as the nose on my face, day in day out. In this instance though there should have been a more moderate reporting of inflation causing factors and how much influence the govt had. They had some, much like they have had some influence over the fall back.

I always look at core inflation as a more relevant measure of control. That too is on the right trajectory. Economists I respect have been saying for a while the trajectory overall is right, if a bit slow. I am pleased to take this as good news, we need a bit of light at the end of this tunnel. The Autumn Statement next to see if the chancellor has any levers to pull on growth, because that is slow. He has to balance our debt position of course. I only hope they dont play vote winning politics with the economy now, and I doubt Hunt will tbh, it is still fragile and crucial Reeves (who I admire) has a steady ship to sail when she arrives.

You're quite right mate, I'm only being a workey ticket with some of it, I know there'll be bluster and outrage. It has to be said though, this government, and each subsequent PM, has been very poor.

A scheme checked and double checked by top government lawyers, including Braverman, who then handed over millions to Rwanda ....

... 'Dear Ms Braverman, thank you for the cheque, your gold mine shares are in the post' <doh>

It's becoming the standard response for their ineptitude ...

... attack the Civil Service, the NHS, the Police, the Judiciary.

Not even their excuses are up to much <doh>
Agree. They just cannot accept they got it wrong and look to deflect by blaming everyone else

Germany have a massive illegal migrant problem, but are deporting illegal migrant, and are talking with Albania to have a Rwanda style system.
They have announced cuts to benefits to illegal migrants as well.

As expressed before, this is much wider than a UK issue.

When an election date is announced, it will be interesting to see how the political parties deal with this issue.

Italy do deport to Albania, could be Plan B?
