That's been the traditional way. I'm not sure it applies these days though - the biggest impediment to Labour regaining power since 2015 has been, well, Labour. They've consistently demonstrated that they're not really any kind of improvement even as the Tories have declined.

I've said it before - their campaign slogan appears to be 'hold my beer'. Every time there's a Tory cock-up, as certain as the sun coming up there's a Labour attempt to outdo it. If they were deliberately self-sabotaging, it would be hard to tell the difference.

    Where there's a feck up, there's a claim. Call Injurylawyers4U...

Rwanda government: We take issue with this ruling
Minutes after that ruling, the Rwanda government has issued this statement, saying it "takes issue" with being defined as a territory that is not a safe third country.

Here is the statement in full:

"This is ultimately a decision for the UK’s judicial system.

"However, we do take issue with the ruling that Rwanda is not a safe third country for asylum seekers and refugees, in terms of refoulement. Rwanda and the UK have been working together to ensure the integration of relocated asylum seekers into Rwandan society.

"Rwanda is committed to its international obligations, and we have been recognized by the UNHCR and other international institutions for our exemplary treatment of refugees.

"Throughout this legal process we’ve been busy continuing to deliver progress for Rwandans, and working together with international partners to solve some of the biggest challenges that Africa and the wider the world faces.

"We take our humanitarian responsibilities seriously, and will continue to live up to them."

I think this is all being driven by demographic changes, because of that I see things only escalating and not returning to anything resembling a sensible middle. Labour will win the next election, peoples fears will not be addressed, what comes after that is anyones guess.

Personally I think Labour winning the election will trigger a coup against Starmer almost immediately.

Maybe, i feel like most new Labour voters don't like him and most old Labour voters think he's better than the alternatives. Personally I think he's an archetypal polititian, he says what he thinks he needs to say to win as much support as possible.

You're quite right mate, I'm only being a workey ticket with some of it, I know there'll be bluster and outrage. It has to be said though, this government, and each subsequent PM, has been very poor.

A scheme checked and double checked by top government lawyers, including Braverman, who then handed over millions to Rwanda ....

... 'Dear Ms Braverman, thank you for the cheque, your gold mine shares are in the post' <doh>

It's becoming the standard response for their ineptitude ...

... attack the Civil Service, the NHS, the Police, the Judiciary.

Not even their excuses are up to much <doh>

They're just running down the time before the election hoping Starmer is caught bumming a dog ...

... although I don't think even that would save them.

Sir Simon Clark... if Rishi doesn't deliver a plan it is a confidence issue before the next GE.

Germany have a massive illegal migrant problem, but are deporting illegal migrant, and are talking with Albania to have a Rwanda style system.
They have announced cuts to benefits to illegal migrants as well.

As expressed before, this is much wider than a UK issue.

When an election date is announced, it will be interesting to see how the political parties deal with this issue.
