That's not what a political dog whistle is and 'stopping the boats' isn't a dog whistle either. It is a placebo though. By claiming they are trying to stop the boats (which in itself is a good thing as it will stop people dying horrible deaths) it makes people who are concerned about immigration think they are doing something about immigration, when in fact it is no ones interest to do that.
Referring to this as a dog whistle is, however, politically charged as it implies that the government, and anyone who supports limiting immigration, are more right wing than they actually are.
Remarkably you're now having to justify not falling for dog whistles from someone who's just repeated all of the Labour dog whistles.
