Not at all. I'll be applying exactly the same logic to a Labour government because that's what you have to do to maintain a balanced view. The very nature of democracy is based on the idea that it takes two sides coming to agreement to get anything done.

I do like to highlight the hypocrisy of others not so concerned with that though. See 'TURN, U' for more details.

You said he can't do these things.
Why aren't you asking why he is pledging things he can't deliver on? - otherwise known as gaslighting.

Keep the deflection and tory defending of the indefensible coming though - very amusing .

Isn’t it because he was named in the group who disrespected the findings on Johnson? Sounds like he’s dragging people down on the way out, nothing to lose. It’s right of course. Environmental harm gets in the way of unbound riches
Undoubtedly true, the writing was on the wall for him. I just think he actually made a good point about the lack of emphasis the govt has on the green agenda right now. I realise there are plenty of problems to solve, but there are fundamental things being ignored it seems.

Pledges or priorities?

What I'm looking at right now says priorities, with Sunak stood in front of it.

Anything to say on Starmer's pledges? Just to clarify what you're advocating for.

I'm not defending the Tories - I'm defending the process of getting things done. The same process the next Labour government will have to go through, unless you're the same as other posters supposedly on the side of the regular punter in preferring dictatorship.

Oh look - pledges.....

Well he said explicitly, It was on him these pledges being delivered.

You love to give these weasels get outs and leeway - only Tory ones though for some reason. It's very entertaining

Assuming this is Sunak, it couldn't be clearer what he said.

Wednesday 4 January 2023

"So, five promises - we will halve inflation, grow the economy, reduce debt, cut waiting lists, and stop the boats.

"Those are the people's priorities. They are your government's priorities. And we will either have achieved them or not.

"No tricks, no ambiguity, we're either delivering for you or we're not. We will rebuild trust in politics through action, or not at all. So, I ask you to judge us on the effort we put in and the results we achieve."

All that may be so, but facts are for suckers you know <laugh>

At what point in time does the incumbent government, in this case the Tories, become responsible for what's going on? 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? I really don't understand how the Labour Party (who have had no powers since 2010), Jeremy Corbyn (who has never had any power) and Keir Starmer (who up until now has also never had any power) can be responsible for anything that has happened in the last 13 years? Or am I missing something here? <confused>

Yes, you are. As usual.

Why do you keep bringing Jeremy Corbyn up?

Nope - you just falling for the current last throw of the tory dice - we are woeful and have been for 13 years but please believe another lie that Labour will be worse - go on - its better than admitting you've been taken in hook line and sinker.

- what a sheep you are.

Very amusing :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I'll be applying exactly the same logic to the next government while you tie yourself in knots trying to defend the things they do that you scream about the Tories doing now.

I'll also be having tremendous fun pointing out the hypocrisy, as I'm already doing to a certain extent with U TURN.

There's nobody on this board looking forward to a Labour government as much as I am.

Interesting piece in the Guardian by Neal Lawson, and why after 44 years he is being expelled from the labour party. I have posted befoee about this approach the labour political machine in westminster have embarked upon. This article says a lot about Starmers approach. I dont recognise this as the Labour party I grew up supporting, and certainly is not the Labour party I can return to.

In my opinion they demonstrate they are not ready to govern, while the tories prove consistently they are incapable of governing. How on earth we can see any hope that any of the two main parties can steer a way forward is beyond me. In our current political system we are left with choosing the least worst. Hardly inspiring. Lawson is a campaigner for proportional representation and a level of consensus politics, the sort of thing that would provide a degree of hope, to me at least. I only hope the next 12 months sees a better version of Labour emerges because they are going to have a hell of a job on their hands and they will need to deliver, for all our sakes.

Hahahaha - really?
The mess Labour have to clear up is unprecedented but you'll jump on the first bit of negative press the mail sun or express prints - imagine being so desperate to try to compare Truss sunak and Johnson to an incoming PM on a similar level.

Laughable but depressing they got anywhere near the top job due to the damage they've caused for a generation to come.

But you keep believing they all the same as theve conditioned a few sheep to believe via the right wing press.

PR is the only answer to the shambolic divisive and downright unchecked dishonest politics of 2023 imo

I was reading that Starmer is considering a front bench reshuffle. Nandy may be up for a demotion. Maybe she isnt enough of a yes woman for Starmer. She made me laugh out loud when she said Labour would be scrapping their commitment of just 12 months ago on rent controls. She called it a 'sticking plaster' policy. A clear dig at Starmer and his silly slogans perhaps? She visited strikers despite Starmer banning front benchers from doing so, shs didnt get the sack unlike a colleague. She has been critical of some of the so called u-turns in labour policy recently too. I predict something of a problem for Starmer if she is marginalised.

Speaking of Labour policy changing regularly. I see another being considered re DfiD - something Starmer was so adamant about recently. It is impossible to get a sense of what it is they actually plan to do and how they plan to do it.
Is that number 8,9 or 10 losing track now.

But this is nonsense. Assuming that an incoming (presumably Labour) MP is going to better than the existing Conservative one has no basis in fact, just blind bias. If you don't scrutinise the party in opposition you could be jumping from the frying pan...

What's more, it's perfectly obvious that Sunak, or anyone else, can't "stop the boats" in the same way the Labour's recent promise to bring back respect for education is beyond their (or any other party's) capabilities. If you believe every 'pledge' that a politician makes is going to come true, you're going to be waiting a long time.

With Sunak, this isn't just one pledge in a raft of other ideas ...

... he's literally asked the country to judge him, and his tenure as PM, specifically on these five promises.

"No tricks, no ambiguity."

Stopped counting mate. I dont mind people changing tack when needs must. But at some point, when they change so many times, you have to wonder if the idea was flawed from the outset.

Yeah, I know. Possibly a bit daft of him. But maybe he doesn't expect them to be in power after the next election or he thinks people will forget about it if other things improve. Surely though, we're supposed to judge all of them on everything they promise.
