Was at the match so haven’t read the thread. I would imagine it’s full of anger about 433, which I get. But I would say that we improved immeasurably when Docherty came on for Smallwood, the latter seeming pre-programmed to only pass to Coyle and Bernard, in between slow running and clumsy fouls. The lesson for me is get your best players on the pitch and the formation matters a lot less.

Eaves was a right handful when he came on. Dropping him for the dreadful Wilks was bordering on criminal.

Asked why he changed formation from the last game he replied "thats a private matter between me and my staff" what a pratt.

Next time I’m at work I’m going to say “that’s a private matter between me and my staff” to every single customer who asks a question and see how long I last.

Our passing is decent until we get near the oppositions box, then we send in an aimless cross to nobody in particular or run out of ideas and lose the ball. We can’t defend set pieces, too busy playing tag or not getting out quick enough to block shots from outside the box. Today’s formation was totally wrong, Huddersfield were no great shakes but never looked liked conceding. Bernard looks like a top player, far too good to be playing for us at the moment, Wilks was absolute rubbish.
The idiots throwing bottles behind the goal (both teams, not just us) want to give their heads a shake.
When I read this and got to the bit about the box I realised what is wrong. Our team are that young they don't know what to do when near the box because they're virgins. They need urgent sexual education or taken to the nearest brothel, then they'll score <cheers><cheers>

And I would say about smallwood, reverting back to this formation meant he had to do all the work across the midfield and he isn’t suited to it. An example was when he was chasing down our right side against ward. The formation against boro he was in the middle and winning the battle there.

We aint good enough is the bottom line ..pigs ear silk purse and all that..from what I again saw today we just do not have enough quality to cut it in this division try as hard as you like…unless we get some more financial backing from the owners for some decent larkers ..ha ha

Enjoyed the atmosphere in any case…

Today was an odd one. Seen a lot of comments saying we played a 433 but we didn't, not how we usually do anyhow. Wilks and KLP were far more central but that gave them space and lots of it. It looked more like a 4222 for me. Grant overthought it and we didn't look dangerous.

One of the big perks of the 352 is that it allows Greaves & Bernard to come out with the ball and that was a huge difference to today's game. Dropping Emmanuel & Eaves was extremely harsh, the Emmanuel decision was just mad. He's always been the better RB, and while Lewie hasn't had a bad season, at a higher level JE's attributes should put him in the box seat. I completely understand why they didn't pick McLoughlin, but they could have put Coyle in there instead if they're desperate to keep him in the side.

On a positive note, I thought Greaves was pretty outstanding today, I watched the stream with Hudds commentary and they were raving about him. He still needs to get stronger but he will as he gets older but he'll be a PL player without question.

In all honesty though, it wasn't much different to the Boro game, Hudds took their chances today though. We were fortunate to win that game and we had a huge slice of luck for the 1st but we've struggled to create all season and we don't really look like scoring

I just feel really flat after this game.
Thought there was a real do or die attitude against boro in horrible conditions. we certainly weren’t bad today we just went back to being not dangerous not threatening and contained by them.
its so annoying it was a way forward for us and him and he’s gone back on it.
Meh

We had no threat against Middlesbrough either. Fought hard as we usually do but really it was a 0-0 game until we got a bit of luck with the bounce off the post. Fought hard again today but we clearly have no threat around the box and that's been very consistent.

"the analyst has just told me there's over 30 crosses into the box today and we haven't got on the end of any of them, that's really disappointing for us".

Yeah, probably because the two players you brought in to compliment the ridiculous overreliance on crosses were sat on the bench and you went with a sub-six foot striker who barely touched the ball.

It's the same when the big strikers start though isn't it. We always sling loads of crosses in without ever looking anything like scoring from it. I'd say it's more a movement issue, or just the fact we're chucking it in the box against an organised defence ready and waiting for it rather than actually getting behind them or opening up any space. Either way, it doesn't reflect well on McCann and it's clearly disingenuous when he quotes the number of crosses to imply that we deserved to score, and he knows it.

That's one cross every 3 minutes in a pulsating, attacking game. I must have tuned in to a different match.

He promised when he came here he'd give the fans something to shout about - he's certainly done that.
