Yeh, hopefully this all gets forgotten quite quickly. I’m just nervous that the club are making similar mistakes to before despite all the good talk
As ridiculous as it sounds, my concern is that the new lot may have set their sights too high and are perhaps now realising that Sunderland in League 1 is not the draw for players that they perhaps thought it was. That ultimately would leave us scrambling around for 2nd, 3rd, 4th choice players towards the end of the window.

I’ve nothing to base this on so it’s just speculation but I don’t believe the new regime lack ambition and I can’t believe the paucity of activity is from a lack of want or from idleness. So that just really leaves naivety and inexperience and just the fact they’re still establishing themselves and their processes.

No but it would have got the ball rolling and allowed us to see if a deal was possible, and if not we then move on to other targets. It would have also given us alot more time to negotiate because the way things are looking now most of our deals will be done with the new season a whisker away, which is far from good preparation.
We just dont seem to have a plan and that worries me.

How do you know that targets haven't been identified early and deals offered? You're assuming that because there have been no incomings so far that no targets have been identified,no bids made,no any attempts at deals and that we don't have a plan.
My point is that there are several factors that have to be in place on both sides for a deal to be done, which may not all come together from the first contact. It doesn't necessarily mean there is no plan or that no bids have been made.

This is a very different season after the lockdowns, many L1 clubs have allowed contracts to run down and are cutting costs. With what's happened to the likes of Derby, Charlton, Sheff Wed, and us to a degree, have shocked football into a long overdue reality.

I trust the club for the first time in decades so not even looking at the rumours etc.

I know lots of possible targets have been reviewed... what i do not know is if serious offers have been made.
And if you did know serious offers have been made how would you feel?

It’s always doom and gloom at SAFC at the start of a transfer window. Everyone seems to think, because the papers aren’t reporting offers for x, y or a(and z probably turned us down according to same papers) , we haven’t offered for anyone.

I’m happy waiting to see what’s happening. I have no doubt that there’s a plan in place which will have been put into action as soon as we lost in the play offs. I just think it’s far more difficult than a lot of fans do

I'd had my fill of our business being conducted in the papers ...

... I'm very happy with how professional the club is looking these days.

Long may it continue.

I'm not so sure on that mate. I've seen a few managers, including Johnson, suggesting there'll be more money than ever about in league 1 this season and that the average wage bills are going to be going up. I appreciate there'll still be some league 1 clubs cutting costs mind.

I think the Championship is where the massive cuts are going to be taking place. it should mean decent opportunities for League 1 clubs including ourselves.

There is an awful lot of work going on atm. Tbh I am very impatient atm waiting for the new signings... but a process is in place and it will run its course!

Three or four players in during the next week or so and all this frustration will be forgotten.
That would depend hugely on who they are. We don't just need players in but quality. If they aren't an upgrade on whats gone by a big margin the discontent may grow.

I appreciate that the market hasn’t got going yet but it would be nice if one summer we would be aggressive early and get the players in we want before pre-season training begins. Looks like once again players will be joining and chucked in at the deep end with very little time to get used to their teammates and any systems the manager wants to use.

Think the difference for me is, I have faith in the staff appointments, so faith they will deliver.

Who ever had faith Hill and Coton would deliver?

That’s a very good point, I remember being bemused when we appointed Coton, a man who was in charge of recruitment at Villa when they went down with about 16 points.
