Come off it Page, yeah the Virgil stuff every club does but I highly doubt every club forges documents in relation to youth players leaving the parents in debt.
Yep, every club taps up. But not every club mouths of to the press as much as Liverpool do.

You're seriously deluding yourself if you believe Saints don't use the same tactics when acquiring senior or junior players.

If LFC hadn't raided your club previously nothing would have been said, but the owners got the hump this time.
Sounds like the excuse of a playground bully to me. It's wrong whoever does it, including Southampton. However, the continuous role call of ex players and dubious pundits stating this player should go here blah blah blah are clearly overstepping the mark. This does not affect just Southampton, but every club throughout the pyramid. Unfortunately some clubs are clearly over supported by the media and have a far greater influence than they should. I just hope Barca start doing a similar campaign for Coutinho - oh wait, he's not for sale!! Sauce for goose and all that!

Ex-players are allowed to voice their opinions. Nothing wrong with that. It's the agent, as always, who would have caused this ****storm.

Nail. Head.

I highly doubt the Liverpool directors are in touch with Murphy etc. telling them what to say.

It's the agent/press.

On the main topic, in an ideal world it would be wonderful if Saints drew a line in the sand and didn't let Virgil go this window.

100%.

People piss and moan but then get fed up and say sell him anyway which is exactly what he's after. Any parent knows that you dont cave in after a tantrum and let the little prick go to the movies anyway, even if its all down to his chavvy little mates egging him on and making him think he's missing out on something even though you know that the movie is a forgettable piece of crap that will never win any awards.

I seem to have missed all the fun, sorry all.

Some observations:

If you don't want Skylarker here, please try not to let him get to you the way he has. As I said the other day, he's not breaking the rules by being here, but the joke is that the quote he posted had already appeared a few pages before. It would have been funnier if someone had just politely pointed that out to him at the time, rather than get uptight about it.

On the main topic, in an ideal world it would be wonderful if Saints drew a line in the sand and didn't let Virgil go this window. Imagine if he just happened to be here on September 2nd (or the day after whenever the window actually shuts). What could he then do? If he won't play, he's in breach of his contract and needn't be paid. If he does play, and don't forget he hasn't played since January, he has to train and play bloody well to attract a buyer in January. So either way it's win-win for Saints, especially if we could actually sign his replacement in this window who Virgil has to compete for a place with.

Please, Les, do it for the fans, the club, and your own everlasting glory.

Do as i did, Put him on ignore. No qualms then.

I've been saying this since about March.

We sit him down and say "Listen Virgil, you will not be going anywhere this Summer, you were happy enough to sign a 6 year deal last Summer now you can honour at least a 3rd of that, you can go to a CL team next Summer if they meet our valuation but you will be going NOWHERE this Summer"

He will soon get over his tantrum and play when he realises we mean it and he's contracted here for the best years of his career.

Like I said earlier it's a shame Holland will be out of WC qualfying by November as that would of been a big help too.

People say we can't do that, we actually can. We might not want to due to the size of the asset or the risk of a Berahinho etc. but the point is we're determined enough and we want to then we CAN do that if we choose to.

Time to make a stand.

No, but they don't need to. Every time an ex liverpool fan pipes up, the press are on it in a flash.

Yeah of course, I'm just saying that you can't blame Liverpool the club for that.

There's plenty we can blame them for without blaming them for something which isn't their own doing.

The Romeu saga is one for next summer I reckon.

Along with Cedric... and maybe Gabbi?

Funny how we're at the point where we're already thinking about who is going to leave next year, I've been doing it for about 2 seasons now <laugh>
