I see wheres SaintKlopp is coming from. Karius doesn't look assured at all and has shown so far that he is at best the same as Mingers or worse. Obviously he can and might be better than mingers in the future but your team looks like its ready for a title challenge this season with so many teams in transition and with the current football being played + no europe. Is it worth sacrificing Karius development for 1 year in order to give you the best chance to win the title?

I use it clearly to refer to run of the mil premier league players.

then some nit wit decided it was all pro player or players on the planet to pick a fight over it.

if you watch a guy warm up you can tell a lot about them. did you ever see brad jones warm up? ****ing brilliant looking. I mean the guy down the pub who could play a bit in sunday league compared to him would look awful but in an actual game the guy just isn't even an average prem player... he just wasn't. Its a given that anyone playing pro football or playing prem football is bloody good compared to the mere mortals that we are but when judged against their peers or against the players at the top of the table who deliver titles then they don't look so good.

In the end a team is more than the sum of its parts and i've never seen yet a team that i would consider 11 world beaters, not even barca at their best (who prob had 5/6 world beaters in there)

Not one side in the top 5/6 clubs this year has more than 3/4 really absolute world beaters in them. they are a mix.

It is how they mix that makes them a good team or not. we have been with respect absolutely great to watch in large part when the players work the system with intensity and trust in each other AND the really good players play.

Lovren, karius clyne and others have been part of that. henderson has been part of it. if we fail we fail as a collective and thereby expose the individual who ends up getting the blame.

anyone who watched his best of compilations form the german league won't be shocked he's finally dropped one in. its just a shock its taken so long.

You have to look at all the aspects together

    1. He is far more positive with the ball (with no more actual talent on it) than mingolet. this helps our tempo

    2. mingolet drops crosses too.

    3. he's been proven to be a decent shot stopped but doesn't hold the ball like mingolet. with respect to mingolet clangers (mostly aerial errors) I have never seen the guy drop a ball out. every shot i've seen has stuck like glue to mingolet.

So for me klopp will keep him in cos he's good enough but he contributes more form the back and rasies our tempo. he is not in on talent, he is in on mental approach

plus we were never winning the title anyway.... sky told us so.

    1. He does this far better than Mingers, klopp should just instruct mingers to play it faster rather than slowing it down even if it means losing the ball ala karius

    2. Minger is shaky aerially, recently though hes been a lot more dominant punching the thing even if it means there will be a clanger or 2. Karius just looks full on awful when crosses come in.

    3. Minger is a great shot stopper. Holds onto most, occasionally lets a soft one in (who doesn't) but also pulls off worldies. Karius just looks like he's run of the mill and even then not totally consistent.

    Should have kept reina <whistle>

I probably think he did but mingolet briefly tried but he 90% of the time holds onto the ball for safety. he is not that bad on the gorund in general passing though.

Mingolet is poor in the air but is reasonably competent at punching.. when he gets the flight of the ball. he is however rooted to his 6 yard box and many things he could get he doesn't and defenders have to deal with

I agree mingolet is a very very good shot stopper. he's dropped a few clangers but he is very good, great reactions and when something comes at him low or to be smothered he holds on to them all the time.

in other words he's got moments of greatness but for the most part hes...... average.

what i've seen live and in clips form his old club leads me to compare karius at best to casillas. I think he gets away with a lot. I think he has the reactions but is all over the place aerially and the ball bounces off him. He's a parrier.

he plays fast though and klopp likes him... so in the end the debate on mingolet v karius ended the day klopp said karius was no 1.. and until he says otherwsie its wishful thinking.. and odd given how long lads wanted mingolet out.

obviously the debate is over as klopp will do as he wants. Still though it's an interesting question and one that can be/should be debated :p. It is funny though as you say Mingers was wanted rid of but klopp has replaced him with the german brad jones. Still early days but i'm enjoying every moment he's playing so far.

I would say hes quite different to De Gea as De Gea when he first came struggled with the high balls (still doesn't convince me) but was solid in goal. He still pulled off worldies.

Courtois on the other hand is a parrier too which is annoying but gets more lee way as hes good off his line and is more commanding of his area and he doesn't really throw any clangers in.

That would have been on condition he was replaced by someone who was actually an improvement though.

The debate will go on as long as it has legs.
Klopp has the last word, obviously. But then he has the last word in all team choices, doesn't stop you lot endlessly putting your own forward.

its kind of pointless debate going nowhere til klopp does something. He's said who is his no 1 so all we can say is in our opinion he's not good enough and then when we do end up 5th (cos sky tells us we will) we can content ourselves with a "i told you so"

Remember the stick Lucas used to get. He was blamed for everything even when he was not the culprit, he came good and has been a good servant to the club. I accept he has not recovered his form after his bad injury and he is not a centre back.

Karius needs time to adjust to a new league and a different style of play, the only way he will do that is to play games.

I'm saying no more on this because we're going round in circles. What will be, will be.
Let's all hope he improves for the sake of the club.

Lucas has just been accepted as fine as we have never been in the position sadly to upgrade ie masch or Alonso.

If we could have improved on him we would have.

Karius v Sunderland..............the goal kick/corner thing isn't in this, but a good stop from Pienarr and an excellent stop in
the 2nd half from someone. On both occasions it was his speed off the line to close space that was key.
