I always thought I'd move back up north eventually. Like you say, great city, great people. Won't be happening now.
You never know where life will take you. My life might be uprooted (again) further north in the not too distant future. It's crazy how things can turn in an instant!
Very true mate. But I won't be coming back now. All the kids are settled down here. And the life you had 30 years ago isn't there anymore. You never know though do you!! Selling property down here, and moving back north? We'd be very comfortable!
I often wonder why I stay here. I work my own hours, I could work from home if I wanted to, I moan every day about the traffic and the people, a lot of my family have moved away, my mates are scattered all over the UK and some abroad. I have a life guaranteed in Canada if I wanted to go tomorrow. Something keeps me here, in this city, home, the best city in the world.
Home is where your heart lies mate. I've been all over but still came back to my home town which in reality, is a ****hole. But it's my ****hole.
We moved to the south of France in 2004 and had five great years there. I couldn't speak French but the wife knew enough to get by. The things I missed the most apart from family was proper beer, hand pulled real ale. We came home as our youngest daughter had our two grandkids and we couldn't cope with just seeing them every three months or so, when they are little you miss so much in their development. Never regretted coming back but home to us by then was Cumbria which we moved to in 1998, love living here and when we return to the North East to see family I find it hard to cope with the traffic, it is unbelievably busy every where you go, can't get used to sitting in queues of traffic.
Stockton is a depressing ****hole, apart from my younger sis my family is shyte at keeping in touch so missing them would not be a problem. Id love to uproot and start a new life somewhere but my boys are my world, so wherever they live ill always be very close by. Thats basically the way my lifes gona go. Sad but true.
Manchester seems to be in vogue now. Just finished watching the latest Cold Feet series based there, makes up for how it was represented in No Offence and Shameless.
