well.... it was marginal exaggeration.
clyne aint worth 24mil. he was running his contract down but we didn't get him cheap. IMO 12mil was all his money
Mane at 34.. again the year before that would have been double but he was value yes
Lallana at 25 was daylight robbery
Lambert at any fee was silly money
Lovren at 25 was prob 15mil too much.

I said Matip was a clear upgrade on Lovren and Skrtel - his last season was a season of two halves. He was brilliant for the first half but really poor for the second half.
But he's been better then I expected so far. Long may it continue.

But then we replace well. Alderweireld was 2 x Lovren. VVD is 4 x Lovren. Tadic/Lallana equal. Pelle at that stage one up on Lambert.
What we haven't done is replace Pelle really (Austin is good, but we need more quality up top). Mane/Redmond/Boufal - we shall see.

The issue you've had is koeman in yar 2 didn't do as well IMO. Alderweirld was a right bargain and then van dijk was a good risk. forester was a good buy for the managers you had. not great with feet but very very good.
I think you never replaced morgan either really. or wanyama.
I do think redmond is decent though.
Romeu is as good as Wanyama. Think Hojbjerg will get to Schneiderlin level from what we've seen.

Holbjerg is a bargain though. how bayern let him go for that little i don't know. he's a major upgrade on claise. I think thats where you had issues last season

You did say he'd be a upgrade on Lovern and Skrtel, that much is true. However, you also labelled him squad player and said we should still sign a first choice CB to partner Sakho.
Never mind though mate, I didn't want us to sign Coutinho or Studge.
We finished sixth, so not exactly massive issues tbh.
(Though it was a mental season in fairness).
Maybe when the new players fully settle in they will have another great run late in the season?
I'd say that's more to do with small squad and Europe.
