Normally I would be against mandatory voting due to freedom of choice, however, providing 'none of the above' was on the voting form why not? btw, I think 'None of the above' would win every time.

That would mean that ALL the standing parties do not have the support of the
electorate, and indisputably so (see below) . So something better change
across the board.

Another thing that "none of the above" does is kill one of the most odious lies
spouted by political parties. Specifically : they're "our" supporters and would have
voted for us normally blah blah blah lie lie lie.

It is both fair, and honest, when 100% of the electorate vote.
The electoral distribution as you said, is intended to ensure all constituencies have
equal effect.

That nowhere near to 100% of the UK electorate vote, is disgusting to me in a world where
reams have / are / will be persecuted / killed for desiring the opportunity to have that vote.

Voting should be mandatory, and there should be a "none of the above" on the ballot.
Everyone votes for somebody, or nobody. But either way you will get off your arse to
go to the polling booth and officially make your views known.

There are parts of the world where people are killed for having gay sex.

Am I abhorrent if I live in a place where gay sex is not persecuted, and I still don't partake ?

<laugh> that's a strange analogy. Voting affects everybody's life, so not unreasonable to suggest that everyone should take part (as is the case in many countries) whereas Gay sex has no bearing on the life of the many heterosexuals.

That's why Trump won in the States, he is non establishment, i.e. the 'none of the above' candidate. No one in their right mind would vote for Trump because they like him, would they?

I have gone back in time to 1985-6, and I am a first year CS undergrad again.
Sitting in the Logic lectures, and the above has been presented in the "Fallacies" topic
( "straw man argument" ) .

Somebody definitely did like him, but "none of the above" would have
precisely quantified their number.

Well, if i had to turn up to a booth and waste my time to either secure a postal vote (especially as you have to vote where you are registered, i am not at home at weekdays due to work commitments) only to not vote for a party as over the past 15 years labour and tory are the same, what's the point of me wasting my time to vote.

At least if i had a day off i would feel that on my conscience

So would a smart phone app where you could vote for 'none of the above' suit you?

that would be perfect. Not sure that is secure though, people getting hacked, people losing their phone, encryption etc etc.

Or a day off would be perfect for me too :D

I think that having it on a Saturday or Sunday or giving us a day off could actually lower voter turnout.
People would see it as eating into their day off or they'd go away for the weekend and not bother.
Engaging people by giving them candidates worth voting for would be nice, but it wouldn't suit the current parties.

They'd go away for the weekend? That's quite a middle class view of life. Wouldn't do Saturday at all, but Sunday 7am to 10pm. I think we could fit that in around the regattas and visits to our country piles.

It was an or, SD! <laugh>
Saturday can be a very busy day for a lot of people or one where people do what they want to, after a long week of slog.
It wouldn't particularly bother me, because I can vote in about five minutes, but it would be **** for many.

I read this on another forum, and thought it was rather good,

"
For those of you on the left I know it is hard. You are confused, bewildered and deeply, deeply saddened. Maybe even triggered. You probably missed work or school yesterday, called in sick or simply didn’t get out of bed. That’s ok though because your Indigenous Women’s Studies prof said it was ok to skip the exam today. Everyone is getting an A as a morale builder. So cheer up.
...

And while I’ve never considered myself much of a right winger, being more of a libertarian bent, I have found myself increasingly pushed and marginalized by the “enlightened and progressive” amongst you into the same camp with all sorts of deplorables, regardless of where they lived and what they called themselves. Nationalists, alt righters, anarchists, constitutionalists and so on and so forth all made for strange bedfellows but an effective team. Working on the premise that the enemy of my enemy is my friend we have all found common ground. We have you to thank for that. By pushing, badgering, harassing, marginalizing and insulting us on a regular basis you created something new. And it crushed you at the ballot box.

...

But not to worry. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to learn from your mistakes. You see, the battle that took place in your polling stations on the 8th of November was just that. A battle. We, the freedom loving peoples of the western world, well, we’re just getting warmed up. To quote the man: “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet“.

So retreat to your safe spaces, grab your adult colouring books and put on a happy face my special snow flakes because regardless of whoever/whatever you are and regardless of what nation it is you reside in, we, the deplorables, are coming for you.

"

If you want to insult those who disagree with you Rob, there is a whole thread on the Premier league board which is a regular **** fest where posts like this are right at home.
If you want to disagree then argue the actual points mate.

Disagree with what ?

I disagree with the position widely taken by the social left, and the hypocrisy and harmfulness of their attitude, and its spelled out in the comment I've quoted.

I'm perfectly comfortable with the comment.

I expressed my opinion elsewhere in my own words this morning where I wrote,

"
I see the leftish lovies are trotting out their usual self centred ignorance at the moment.
These arrogant morons who brand themselves as "love over hate", whilst failing to criticise those in their number brandishing banners advocating a physical attack on the president elect's wife, whose anger and psychological violence spills out every time they speak, and whose arrogance and obsession with condescending to others leads to their utter failure to understand that those who have a different view to them are not naturally people of hate.
These hate spawning idiots, who can't get it through their thick heads that it's their own arrogance, stupidity and refusal to listen to the reasonable views of others due to their conceited, arrogant, abstract view of the world, that creates more and more mutual anger.
These sore losers who can think of nothing but defending their armchair ride lifestyle, and who can't accept that there are disaffected people that don't fall into one of their cherished and mollycoddled minority groups, or that there are other (sensible, realistic) views of the world than their own head in the clouds bullshit."

I'm perfectly happy with that comment too.

I'm not racist. I'm not sexist. I'm not a bully. I support equality.

But I am sick to death of the liberal agenda in our society.

About people being brought up to take offence at being told they aren't discriminated against.

About the arrogance and hypocrisy of those who brand themselves as lovers and those with a different opinion to their own haters.

About the constant stream of bullshit news stories focusing on total non issues because theyre politically correct.

About people manipulating events and statistics to support their agenda.

About people not being allowed to speak and not interested in listening.

It makes me sick, and I've had enough of it.
