The best team won the derby, no doubt. Not so sure the best team won the rugby. I thought Ireland were very unlucky second half. Was amazed at the interest in the locals here and the support they gave Ireland..
I'm really not sure how to summarise that game. Stroller did a good job earlier in the thread as of course did others. The first half was superb, we showed good intent in going forward and the goal mouth incident and subsequent sending off paid testament to that. It's a shame Robinson pulled up lame as his long throw is a lethal weapon and twice it lead to goal mouth incidents in the first thirty minutes. Joel Lynch was excellent as were most of the side in the first 45. There was some great passages of play up until the 75th minute and then we reverted to type and were clinging on at the death as we seemed to get deeper and deeper and invited them onto us. I think we got nervous about seeing the game out. We should've been outta sight by the time they equalised and I thought Ollie's subs were a bit strange. We were left on tenterhooks when we shouldn't have been but hopefully Ollie will sort that out. It was great to meet up with our fellow not606's before the match. Beth you have to get Josh ( Beth's son-in-law) to come to LR more regularly. He has a 100% success rate.
The question should be how many glasses of sherry have I had this evening? (4 is the answer) I can't believe that I put that, it must've felt like they had equalised at the time. It offered the canaries a way back into the game that they didn't deserve as it was their only decent effort on target, but that's football I suppose.
Subdued? Really? I wonder why? Let's face it, neither of these teams is going anywhere fast. Glad the Irish Rs had a good day out, respect!
Hope you enjoy the match tomorrow Eamonn and that it goes well for Ale and Getafe - a win could move them near playoff contention, so a bit like us. I note Getafe have played a series of fairly tight matches, won or lost by the odd goal, or tied, low scoring, so I predict (like us today) a 2-1 home win, putting them a point above Real Zaragoza. A good positive start for Ollie. I was picking my daughter and grandsons up from Gatwick yesterday afternoon and the last thing I heard as I entered the carpark was Chery missing the penalty and thinking 'Oh f*ck'. Pleasantly surprised when I emerged an hour later to hear we were 2-0 up but then the usual jitters as we attempted to do a typical Rs cock-up at the end. If we can bottle the first half positives we'll be on the up...
He has more than 100% success rate (did I really write that?) it is actually 2/2 (he was at the play-off final too)...and his other team Bournemouth also won yesterday. Okay, I am going to risk this (having never played I don't get the tactics like you boys do)....I am going to suggest tactically why the match changed From the team sheet, we couldn't work out the formation...and suggested 3-5-2. What I think I saw (Roller sort of backed this up) was a strange but very fluid set up where Hall was playing infront of Ned and Lynch as a sort of deep defensive midfielder position, in the first half Hall was often in their half/penalty area as seemed he had permission to move forward, this released Cousins and Luongo freedom to move forward too. At other points when Robinson was flying down the wing we appeared to have 3 CD. Norwich, especially a man down, could not work this....with this formation we dominated. At half time Robinson was injured (I think I heard Ollie say it was a prcaution to take him off, so it is not a tear), we reverted to a traditional 4-3-3 (with Sandro becoming the DCM), this did not work anywhere near as well, Norwich could cope with this and Sandro was a little off the pace, especially when Norwich came back into it. So Ollie had a radical plan that seemed to work, it does need good attacking full backs to work, and 3 solid CD who know what they are doing...and in the first half they did!. The other thing was from the top of the Loft, we were pretty sure we saw Clint Hill on the pitch ...he had changed his name to Lynch...but it was definately Clint out there...solid, bossing people around, playing anywhere (CD/LB) making runs you don't expect...... I felt we had more of our Rangers back yesterday...happy bunny
It was a good day Eternal. Rather a heavy round of naked ladies you got lumbered with though! I was on the 6.00 train home & I didn't notice more than a father & son Canary aboard. They were very quiet!
Always happy to oblige with the supply of Naked ladies! Good to see you yesterday, and yes a thoroughly enjoyable day all round.
An absolute pleasure. Good to see you as always. I made a pleasant change to see people leaving the ground with smiles on their faces, long may it continue.
A couple of things I disagree with here... I think our effectiveness dipped not when Sandro took to the field but when Luongo went off. Sandro got things really moving across the middle of the field. In the second half there was a 10 to 15 minute spell where we played the best football I've seen QPR playing for a long while. Then Luongo went off and Shodipo came on and it went to pieces a bit. I would have kept Luongo on (if possible) and swapped Shodipo for Chery maybe... since Chery never got into the swing of things. Chery was stop and start... some good moments, then some bad.
So you're saying Hall played as a libero in the first half? Very interesting. We might have a Franz Beckenbauer on our hands Good write up Beth, I think you have described the tactical part very well. Encouraging read, I like the fact that Ollie will try something different than what most were expecting.
