According to Express (h/t the Sunday Mirror) Liverpool will make a £26 million bid for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud in January.

Klopp is said to be a long-term fan of the Germany under-21 international, who has developed wonderfully in the Bundesliga. The report suggested that after interest in the summer, the Reds are ready to test Borussia’s resolve to keep the 20-year-old.

Here is a look at why so many in Germany have such high hopes for Dahoud:

Having those three in the middle will be a disaster - zero creativity, no proper ball carrier and no real link to the forwards. We'd be solid, but so reliant on Coutinho creating something from nothing.

Certainly wouldn't be as effective as we're currently seeing but it could still work.

Do you not think wiji could do that job?
Nope. Nothing I've seen from them so far has shown me they can create something to turn a game around. Gini is very efficient, tidy and hardworking. He's an upgrade on Allen and important for how we play, but won't win a game. Can is the same. Henderson is capable of great through balls or pot shots, but they're few and far between. I like them all, but we need a creator in the midfield to go with two of them.

Gini played as a 10 or wide left for Newcastle last year and scored 10 goals. Suggests he can do a job further up the pitch nearer the goal.

We're ridiculously being linked to Luke Shaw and/or Chris Smalling <laugh>

Arsenal were linked to smalling, we were to shaw only because we need a LB. He was a cracking full back at saints but looks like mentally not got over his injury and not got back into match shape yet

I think he's been very good actually. plays on the half turn and deeper. lallana looks great cos he's deployed further up and is freer to get in box and press up etc.

Wijnaldum has played super for us.

Nobody can win a game, everyone has to do it. I would say however Firmino sets the whole tone from central

That's what it says on BBC. Ninety Minutes (I know) reported us being after Smalling

Could Shaw ever get fit enough to fit into a Klopp team, he is a bit of a Doughboy, apparently not the sharpest tool in the box either. His nickname at Saints was Dopey, I think. Him and Moreno will be like the brains trust at the back, not!

It's all balls... complete piss take of utd at this point.

I could see smalling to arsenal though.... wenger loves a perceived bargain but.., he's got better players now than him.

Shaw... Meh. lfc are not Interested

Smalling wouldn't be a bargain though mid 20s, united first team CB, England international... would be upwards £20m

Makes much more sense than the Madrid links. His close control and acceleration are far better suited to Barca, Madrid are more speed and power based.

TBH, I think he'll go Barca in the summer. Obviously, I don't want him too but the lure of the city, Neymadge and replacing Iniesta will be too much.
