Phelan left his role at Man United reserves in 2008, when Weir was 13 and at Preston, his info on him is likely to come from his old mates at Man United rather any direct experience.

The players we sign for the first team shouldn't be affected by a £1m punt on one for the future, but the reality is that we're not going to get a competitive Premier League squad until we get new owners.

In that case you shouldn't have written "Phelan won't have known Weir personally, he didn't even sign for Man United until after Phelan had left." as it was wrong.

There is absolutely no excuse for the following abysmal stats.

Played 4
Lost 4
Conceded 17
Scored 3
Red Cards 2
Penalties Conceded 2
Average Possession 42%

Hate this cliche but we really need to go back to basics and build on some defensive performances. We need to stop chopping and changing the team every week and find some consistency. Our discipline is terrible.

Elmohamady needs dropping as he is inept and has never been qualified to play as a wing back or right back at this level and is a liability.

For me we need to play with three at the back.

Losing 6-1 against Bournemouth is a very low and embarrassing moment. Don't get me wrong what Howe has done there is great but there is no excuse to be turned over my a team on that ilk to the display of 6.

3 at the back, totally agree. We're going to have to go back to stopping conceding goals first and foremost. We are leaking like a sieve at present. With all due respect conceding 6 against Bournemouth is pretty embarrassing.

He was actually reported to be a 'left-sided attacking midfielder' when we signed him and had been playing left back for Man United ressies.

Maybe he'll come in for Robbo on Saturday. <yikes>

I suspect Clucas will play LB. hopefully we'll go to 5-3-2 and just keep it tight for a couple of games. Huddlestone can play in front of the back 3.

Which begs the question again, what the **** has happened. We've gone from a team united and looking like not scoring many but not shipping many (Man Utd, Leicester, pre season) to ineptitude in a matter of weeks. Theres an underlying problem we don't know about. Give me the 10 back and I'll be happy.

I think yesterday was a case of underestimating Bournemouth because they sound ****. On paper their squad doesn't look much better than most Championship clubs and I think a lot of teams make the same mistake. Howe has got them playing great football and we just didn't concentrate. At 1-1 we should have been able to go in at half time and rally, but the two quick goals put paid to that.

It's a lesson to be learned for the upcoming games, we have to ensure that if we're going to be that awful away from home, we need to be tighter at home and I think Dawson's return will help that. A settled team would also benefit the lads.

Marshall

Snodgrass
Harry
Davies
Dawson
Robertson (if fit)

Clucas
Henriksen
Mason

Hernandez
Mbokani (if fit, if not then Keane I guess).

Or

---------------------------Marshall------------------

Elmo---------------Davies-------------Dawson----------Robertson/Tymon

--------------------------------Clucas---------------------------------------

Snodgrass------------------------------------------------------Henriksen

---------------------------------Mason--------------------------------

Mbokani/Keane-------------------------------------------Hernandez

Snodgrass is no wing back. He offered no support to Elmo at all. Be even worse if he was there on his own.

What has Livermore done wrong... apart form become a centre back and not a midfielder..

No, Phelan has to give Weir a game soon, to show that he's part of the set up..

He hasn't done anything wrong at all, but with the return of a recognised centre back and club captain, known for organising the team, it's more prudent to have Dawson in there. Especially given how disorganised we were yesterday.

He's certainly adaptable. I've seen attacking mid, left sided and RB.
Though he was shocking at RB against Stoke I think.
TWT

Weirs through ball created the winning goal - he was no worse than most of the team that night and better than some - bet you didn't go to that one either

"Anyone who said Weir isn't a right back was absolutely bang on..."

"Our game improved a lot when Weir went into midfield and Elmo went to right back."

hpe this helps. You go to a lot of games but youre obviously a clueless **** about football

you don't seem to have a clue whether someone's crap or not unless you read it on here - I wonder who told you Phelan and Huddlestone were crap, they've created a monster

So Weir was brilliant at RB then? Strange how he hasnt played him there then.

Huddlestone is a great gifted player who does it in fits and spurts of form. Find me a post where i call him crap. He may have played crap ut he isnt crap.

Your mate Phelan had him as sub. Why is that?
