People have been warning others about this for some time tbf. The question is... was there a chance for Saints to spot this and stop it? Did they sell the tickets and ask for passport numbers only or did they ask for the name on the passport (in which case the error should have been spotted). I'm sure they will be trying to sort this out, but I pity the ticket office staff.....don't shoot the messenger, lads.

The other thing to consider is I imagine there are a lot of people who haven't mixed the names up and are just chancing the fact that Inter won't ID everyone on the night.

Hope it doesn't cause problems outside the ground.

Which is ambiguous, registered against the ticket or the account? I think the club has recognised they made an error here and imagine they will offer the opportunity to refund and re-buy as someone pointed out earlier, most people who did this should be eligible now anyways. Hoping it won't cause too many people problems.

It was online only and I'm finding it hard to feel sorry for anyone who's tried it. As you say some were even laughing about it.

There's was a poster on SW who was almost bragging that they just left the passport details blank and it let him purchase

The club definitely should have picked up on that.

Just been on SW and some are moaning about needing a purchase history when tkts go on general sale...the usual guff about going on tickets bought by someone else previously so having no purchase history. Correct me if wrong, but hasn't SFC been saying for years that you should add such people's name to your account to avoid this situation.

Also another chap talking about his mate buying two season tickets for Arsenal, then selling the spare ticket for each match (to cover his own ticket) as this is the only way 'poor' people can support the team they love. Get out the violins. The only way this would work is if he sold the spare ticket at a premium, thus taking advantage of other fans trying to watch the team they love...think this makes him a ticket tout.

So if they're saying that the tickets are invalid are we likely to get a refund?

Like others have said, the eligibility criteria has now changed so most people that originally got tickets an somebody else's account are now more than likely eligible for a ticket themselves. Which also begs the question, are the club going to contact people in enough time so that they can purchase a new ticket under their own account?

Just spoke to them this morning - they are refunding tickets and simply cancelling the order. Fortunately myself and those who were due to go using others' season tickets have our own accounts to use and have just bought tickets again (second time lucky!).

I guess they are going to have enough time as I don't think they've ordered the tickets yet... That being said I had originally used my own details to buy for a friend(when they hit membership stage) and they hadn't got round to speaking to me yet. They really must have a long list to get through and are working through it in in order of when tickets were purchased.

I bought an additional membership in my wife's name for this type situation - mostly she comes to matches with me, but sometimes my brother is down from London and will come and sometimes my mum or someone else will come, but it all goes onto a single purchase history so that I can take at least one person with me to the games I want to go to if it gets busy.
I believe it's technically against the T&Cs but not really different than giving your ST to a mate when you can't use it and it's a net profit for the club as I only occasionally go to see "big" (a.k.a expensive) teams, so they get an extra ticket bought for Watford or the EFL cup a second Europa bundle or whatever (I'm poor - I mostly go to cheap games!). It's mainly to guarantee seats next to each other.

The topic that is being discussed on SW at the moment stems from a Man City fan who has been suspended for lending his ticket to someone else....personally I think there is more to it than that as the person concerned was stopped from entering using the ticket...was he perhaps banned?, was he trying to get in on a concession ticket?, or was this a regular event and City think this was a tout. People like to jump on the Wagon Outrage without getting all the facts. No club just picks on a random bloke and check his ID.

My parents have friends in Pompey who are Pompey supporters and because they knew i was a Saints fan they got me a ticket but i did not know i was going until i got to their house. The only problem was i was in a stand on my own with Pompey supporters as they could not get me a ticket near them so picture the scene a 14 year old lad who did not know he was going with a Saints top under his coat surrounded by Pompey supporters trying not to cheer when Saints scored. Im still here so mustve made it

There's no way a fan was suspended for just lending his ticket to someone else - I'm betting the person who he lent it to was behaving badly in some way & got caught.
Invoking that clause is the fastest & easiest way to deal with it - you can eject & ban the person misbehaving straight away, and put the person who's ticket has been borrowed on notice about who they lend it too, if at all, in future.

The wording from the club about account and passport details matching was not 'clear' as some people seem to suggest. If it was that clear then people would not have chanced it.

Here is the wording taken directly from the OS and nowhere there is it made clear that the name, DOB and passport details entered at point of purchase have to match the season ticket or membership. If anybody can point me in the direction of the bit that actually states that then good luck to them.

Please note, Italian law requires that we collect the name, date of birth and passport number of every supporter attending the game, and record this against the details of their seat. This information will be collected online at the point of purchase.

Only the supporter registered against the ticket will be admitted to the stadium. Internazionale will be checking the ID of every supporter at the turnstiles and will compare this to the information that the club has sent them.

Whoever designed the purchasing part of the web site is at fault as well as surely it couldn't have been that difficult to pre-fill the name and DOB fields and make them read-only so that the only piece of information that could be entered was the passport number. It wasn't like that though, all fields were fully editable so you could put in whatever details you wanted to.

The allocation announcements are also partly to blame as when initially saying that 5000 and only 5000 tickets would be available this meant that a bit of a scramble was triggered as people used other accounts to make sure they got a ticket before the full and final allocation of 5000 sold out. To then go and release another 3700 tickets on top of that when the club must already have known that tickets were being purchased with different season tickets or memberships is quite frankly a bit of a joke.

Just to be clear, I am a happy bunny as my ticket was purchased on my season ticket so I don't have any problems but I have a few mates who have tried to take the shortcut, as well as obviously reading about other people in posts on here who have done the same. I feel angry and disappointed for them as the club have not done themselves any favours by getting into the position where they have to ring their own supporters (sorry, customers...!!) to tell them they can't take part in one of the biggest occasions in the club's history.

I agree that it should have been made harder to buy the ticket if it wouldn't be valid, but most people seemed to think they were getting through a loophole, so couldn't be surprised when it snapped shut. Any ticket bought by a season ticket holder or member would be in their name, so the passport would similarly have to match. I have sympathy in that it should have been impossible to buy a ticket that would subsequently not be valid, but everyone buying a ticket on someone else's number was aware that it was wrong. The club are trying to sort this out and I hope everyone gets there to enjoy the game.

You could only buy a ticket for yourself, unless you bought a ticket for a family member using the friends and family link - on top of your own. You think that everyone who chanced it was actually misled, when I bet a decent amount did actually chance it and fully believed Italian police wouldn't check.

Inter then agreed to the extra tickets after only initially offering 5000 so not sure what the problem is there.

People who have bought tickets for family without crediting them to that specific family member's account over the past few seasons to get tickets together/beat the priority rules have been fine with this loophole (whatever), but can't be pissed off when it suddenly doesn't work in their favour.

Easy to buy at least one ticket a season to keep your number nice and fresh. Unlike some clubs, we don't sell out every game...at least initially when people are on holiday.

Cant see anyone, who bought a ticket under "false / mistaken" pretences being worried about a match ticket refund. The majority of flight transport won't be refundable, so they'll probably go regardless & just try their luck. Gate entry will be very interesting!!
