Hull The Good Old Days ran a vote over the weekend, for the shops people miss the most. Fletchers was the resounding winner and I've no idea why Hammonds is on there as it's still there, but where was Hydes?

1) Fletchers
2) Skeltons
3) C & A
4) Woolworths
5) Goodfellows
6) Mackmans
7) Sydney Scarborough
8) Hydes Pie Shop
9) Hammonds / Binns
10) Jacksons / Grandways

Yankee Burger and Syd Scarborough's .. also what was the Jewish tailors Manny something or other .. seemed everyone used to go there for their first suit for job interviews .. think he was on Hessle Road but I may be mistaken

Duggleby's. Not that I ever got anything from there but I liked looking in the window.

Sydney Scarborough for me and Bun in the oven.

Oh and the original Yankee burger :emoticon-0110-tongu

Yankee Burger without a doubt. A bacon egg burger and a Frank the Yank plus frys with extra was my lunch every Saturday when I'd just started working.

Bun in the Oven is less missed.

Got food poisoning from there one Sunday night and was off work for a week.

Bun in the Oven not for the excellent quisine, but more a fond memory.

A ****ty little cheeseburger with onions after failing to pull of a night...

I was always astounded how they managed to affix the burger to the bottom piece of soggy white bread with such adhesion. They were inseparable. I was doing a lot of welding at the time and I never managed a bond as strong as that.

Neither the cheese nor the onions were actual foodstuffs either. I don't know what they were but derived from carbon based lifeforms they were not.
