A friend of mine was working at Beverley and Thirsk race tracks through the week and got talking to a trainer who gave him a horse for Saturday that they are expecting to win. Looking at the horse i can't see anything that would make me interested but could be some good info or just an over confident trainer. I'll have a dabble anyway just in case. The horse in question is 5:55 Catterick - Dr Red Eye 10/1 (with Paddys). Personally without this 'info' from my friend i'd be quite keen on Desire at half the price, so reverse forecast along with my two singles.

Some nice NH racing at Listowel today and Joseph O'Brien is wasting no time in getting a couple of his nice prospects out on the track. In the opening maiden hurdle it will be a surprise if Aspen Colorado doesn't get off the mark at the first time of asking. This son of Galileo was ante post favourite for the Cheltenham bumper for a number of weeks before ultimately failing to make the festival and finishing down the field behind more battle-hardened horses at Punchestown.

The Sean T. McElligott Memorial Novice Hurdle should be an absolute cracker with the top 3 all looking to have decent claims but perhaps the 5lb weight concession can make it a dream start for Joseph with All The Answers, who readily outpointed Silver Concorde at Galway.

Tony Martin looks to have got one ready in the 3.30, Clonalig House sneaking in off 9-10 with Jack Kennedy on board. Money for this one already.

The exciting filly Tocororo goes in the novice chase at 5.10 and her slamming of Tiger Roll and Bailey Cloud in a Grade 3 at Galway last time makes her unopposable here as she again gets plenty of weight from the boys.

Finally in the bumper, old boy Hidden Cyclone would be a popular winner but Liz Doyle's The Winkler and Noel Meade's Snow Falcon both come here in excellent form and, at the prices, The Winkler at 6/1 gets my vote.

    This weeks Scoop 6/Lucky 63:

    2:00 Ayr - Drumfad Bay 15/2
    2:35 Ayr - Get Knotted 12/1
    2:50 Newbury - Scarlet Dragon 8/1
    3:10 Ayr - Haley Bop 11/1
    3:25 Newbury - Spirit Quartz 6/1
    3:45 Ayr - Orions Bow 11/1

In the Gold Cup, i also like the chances of Sir Robert Cheval 25/1 at a massive price so ew single on that one and reverse forecast with Orions Bow

Hello, me old loves. Not 2 venues I usually take the regular readers to, on a Saturday, but this afternoon and evening the advice is at Ayr and Wolverhampton.

MORANDO (3.10 Ayr) – Progressed enormously for Rog Varian earlier in the campaign and achieved wins at Royal Windsor then Chester. The latter as easily as you like by 3.5 lengths. Raised 10 lbs for that success and off the track for 3 months but I would take Morando to overcome both of those impediments here. Looks a really interesting animal and could potentially go on to mix it at Group level later in his career.

    ALSACIENNE
(9.10 Wolverhampton) – I can smell it in the air a ‘Prescott plot’ (either that or the drains at Chuckle Towers are blocked again). This Dalakhani filly has performed satisfactorily in 2 appearances this term but is taken to get off the mark here off a perch, of 62, which looks easily exploitable for her. Alsacienne’s opponents don’t look the greatest bunch ever assembled and this looks a very solid opportunity for the old girl to break her maiden.

    Good luck, all.

Morning all... As my other half kindly pointed out to me this morning that her Facebook friend said it was 6 years ago that we were last up in Scotland for the Ayr Cup watching ole boy Frankie win upon Redford, she has nudged me into placing a few bets on the card today. So with a brew and kit-kat in hand and the ATR website to help me here are the winners today...!!

    1.25 - Temerity, 5/1
    2.00 - Rosebride, 14/1
    2.35 - Eccleston, 14/1
    3.10 - Garcia, 4/1
    3.45 - Poyle Vinnie, 20/1
    4.20 - Snoano, 7/1
    4.55 - War Glory, 8/1
    5.30 - Mukhayyam, 10/1

We actually had a very good weekend all them years ago, even came out in profit on the day, with Redford, Bridle Belle, Sonny Red and another one that escapes me actually returning me some winnings... So I've done the double odds ones in a small L15 with the others in small singles n doubles for a bit of fun...You just never know do you...

Good luck to all who do play today as the forum has been firing in some good winners recently, and long may it continue...<cheers> <ok>

Gold cup I am going small e/w on Ascription first run for new yard & over 6f but some good previous form - 33/1

In these big handicaps the often used adage is look for a group horse in a handicap. In today's Ayr Gold Cup entries there are 4 previous group winners. I've backed 2 of them, Aeolus and Johnny Barnes. The latter is trained by John Gosden which intrigues me because I don't recall him throwing entries at these type of races. Both around 25s. Brando and G Force are the other 2 previous Group winners. Elsewhere on the Ayr card Highland Colori and Tatlisu have both won at this meeting before and wil carry a bit of my ew cash too. 16s and 11s respectively. Good luck all having a go today.

Saturdays scatter gun approach came up with this:
Ayr 200 Partitia 235 Lexington Abbey 345 Teruntum Star (otherwise known as a Pat Smullen singles doubles and treble e/w)
Newbury 145 Dartmouth 215 Legendary Lunch 505 Crystal Ocean singles and a treble
Newmarket 135 Sobetsu 500 Dubka 535 Zwayan singles and a treble
Wolves 540 Kiringa 710 Kindly 810 Against the Odds singles and a treble
Footie - Leicester, Man City, Newcastle, Doncaster, Hibs and Livingston 6/1 for the bankers but which team will be the *ankers that bust it?
Arsenal, Millwall, Bolton, Portsmouth 13/1 for the aways
Leicester, Man city, Everton, Bradford 5/1 the 4 fourfold
Leicester, Blackburn,Burton, Rangers, Stjohnstone Goals galore 10/1

    Happy punting lads!

No “Race of the Season” candidate this week... unless twenty-five runner cavalry charges are your thing!

I put up Growl on here a few weeks ago when I was told to back it ante post for the Ayr Gold Cup – even though it was already favourite at that point with the draw unknown. As it is I avoid the Western Meeting like the plague because it is almost always soft ground and I would not touch those cavalry charges on any ground.

Can Imperial Aviator rekindle his tarnished reputation at Newbury? Back in May after he had won the London Gold Cup, he and Ulysses were being talked up as the next best thing since sliced bread but neither of them has quite lived up to the media hype amongst a moderate Classic generation. Now he is back in a handicap over that May course and distance.

If I am bored to tears with Everton v Middlesbrough by half-time, I may go to the bookies for the last at Catterick (6:25). A couple of weeks ago I was told this was fancied at Beverley and put it up. It was backed from 33/1 down to 16/1 and then withdrawn at the start. No word when it subsequently ran at Carlisle (morning 10/1; SP 7/1) and was fourth. Again no word for Tafahom and I note that the apprentice is not on it today. The last Mick Easterby one I was given won two races after we were told to back it – will lightning strike twice?
