Nothing to do with politics but seeing that we've slipped into a musical alleyway, did anyone catch that Burt Bacharach tribute thing on BBC4 at the weekend? I think it may have been a repeat (Burp Bacharach!) but I was struck by the complexities of the songwriting and how challenging they were to perform and accompany. Brilliant songwriter, has he any peers?

Yeah and written by the Bee Gees for Marvin Gaye!

Wait a minute , it's the Pogues!!!

Good skills! They wrote so many great songs and Barry did well at Glastonbury with Coldplay. I felt sorry for him as he thought the crowd would hate him.

We better be careful as we have taken this thread too far off topic. We might get banned <laugh>

That sounds good Shawswood, I'll look out for that.

The ABBA blokes were incredibly talented song writers.
A lot of their songs are very complicated musically, although the melodies were easy to follow.
A guy I've worked with in the theatre reckons that the music in Chess is among the most difficult he's ever encountered.

Dear Stan
As good as I said this country is the health service needs a bit of work
I have spent two days in a hospital bed waiting for an MRI although the copious amounts of drugs are relieving some of the pain the nurses don't rate my chances of getting one over the weekend either

Jesus mate what have you done to yourself?

The NZ health system is one of the meanest in the developed world, when it used to be one of the best and most generous.

Enjoy the painkillers (careful that diamorphine is very more-ish) and follow doctors orders.

Always look after your back kids

I have allready forgotten half the names of the pills they have been giving me
Most likely be an operation on Tuesday bit if the MRI was used longer I would have had it today

That doesn't sound good Kiwi, what have you done mate?

Some of the gel between the discs has leaked out and gone hard around a bundle of nerves causing mental pain all the way down my left leg from buttock to ankle every time I move/laugh/couth etc
Had an op four years ago for the same thing but this time it's a lot more painful
Just need the MRI to be done to confirm

Is that a slipped disc? I hope they can sort you out mate, that sounds awful.

I think it's a type of slipped disc
Usually a slipped disc can fix itself in 6 weeks(according to dr Google) but last time the gel had to be cut away so until the MRI we won't know whether that's the problem or if the scar tissue from last op is rubbing the nerves
For the last three weeks I have been housebound so hospital makes for a change of scenery

I believe the official term is 'herniated disc'. The disc ruptures and leaks stuff (v.technical, I know!) that hardens - like a jam doughnut leaking jam. If that happens to touch a nerve it's absolute agony. It's like toothache on steroids. The back can go into involuntary muscle spasm as it tries to reduce the cause of the pain. Equally painful. Over time, the body reabsorbs the hardened, leaked material and the neural irritation stops - but the back is usually weak forever, increasing the chance you'll do it again. I first did this at the age of 22 (moving musical equipment around) and my back is still a suspect zone 35 years later - although it's been 25 years since my last incident.

Kiwi - I know how you feel and you have my utmost sympathy. Get well soon, fella.

All the best mate.

Sorry to hear that mate, I've had several slipped discs over nearly 40 years but been fortunate to have had two excellent osteopaths in that time who've saved me untold agony. Once surgery is involved the options are greatly reduced which is why I've never gone for it. You have my utmost sympathy, I hope they sort you out...

Thank you all
Any better Kiwi?

Corbyn gets the mandate to continue his dynamic leadership and Trump edges ahead in some key States in the US. Theresa May has made everything so dull and cautious (let's have an inquiry into it, put off making a decision) nobody cares any more.
