May be, but if you are a fan of nation states which require strategic industrial capacity, sometimes they are a necessity. Chinese protectionism and tariffs protect their own inefficient steel industry, flood other markets with cheap (even after tariffs) product. So you end up without the capacity to make steel and dependent on China and other producers.

Personally I'm not a fan of nation states, but I'm less of a fan of the Chinese and other governments, and despite my lukewarm view, nations are still the way we do things, apparently.

Are you anywhere near this Stan?

Yep, just a mile and a half away, right next to a retail park which will be losing its Sunday business because there is a police cordon around the place. Looks like a large scale domestic rather than terrorism.

That's something not to be too proud of - this sounds so condescending but highly likely that the bottom 20% are the ones that typically are making these protest votes that will probably backfire.
I know there were always the haves and have nots but how does a society like the UK allow that to happen?

Or am I looking back with rose tinted glasses? -
It all kicked off with the value of homes spiralling - right?

I'm glad that I live in a place where I get taxed to kingdom come, the Danes hate it but at least it seems EVERYONE has a fair crack of the whip at quality of life.

One for you Kiwi.

There are 200,000 unemployed people in NZ, a 5.7% rate. There is an 'open door' policy on immigration and 69,000 new migrants arrived last year. Your Prime Minister says this policy will continue as Kiwi employers think many locals are drug addicted, lazy and will invent illnesses once in work, so won't give them jobs.
He is right to a certain extent about the locals but you can say the same about the workshy in probably every western country
At a rate of +3.6% nz is the third best performing country in the oecd
A lot of the record immigration Is kiwis returning after leaving here in record numbers in past years
Tis a great country stan

I know it is Kiwi, I visited an age ago (1987) and spent a couple of months walking the tracks and generally hanging around. Beautiful, great people (9 times out of 10 the first car to pass me when hitching picked me up, and the trip usually ended in a pub). It was a bit old fashioned in those days, I expect that's changed.

I just thought it was a weird thing for a PM to say about the electorate.

Looks like there will be a public inquiry (or whatever) into police actions at Orgreave during the miners strike. Now if there is a case to answer I suppose this is correct, but the duration and cost of these things, when we are hearing that the number of people getting help for caring for relatives at home has fallen by 25% due to cuts, is oppressive. Surely there is a better way to do this stuff?

He can say and do as he pleases
The so called opposition are a total shambles
Key gets away with it because he comes across as a bloody good kiwi
Even my wife who hates his party and what they stand for likes him
Should be four elections in a row for the kiwi Tories

Anna Soubry. Tim Nice But Dim in female form.

I'm recording it and will watch it after the Paralympics mate. Isn't Soubry the dimwit who tried to defend Cameron's (non-existent) legacy earlier? I'd imagine she's attempting to do it again.

**** me Nines, what it is to be living a life of leisure - I'll record QT and watch it later!

Yes, Soubry is that very dimwit. I came to this evening's show a little late, but all I've seen so far is about today's Labour party - McDonnell v The Rest.

It's great mate, I can recommend it :emoticon-0103-cool:

I'm not sure that sounds feisty enough for me. I'll have a quick watch and probably hit delete.

Quentin Letts is on, so there's plenty of opportunity for roaring at the TV.

I'm now watching Duets At The BBC on BBC4. Neil Diamond and Shirley Bassey - wonderful.

I'll record that as well and watch it later. Although I've missed the first half hour.

Do watch it. Cher with Greg Allman and a Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush thing that I've never seen before.

Great stuff, hopefully that's on the bit I've recorded. If not I'm sure it will be repeated or that I'll be able to find it on YouTube or somewhere.

bloody hell i was just watching that then see this, Spooky. Watch 131 on Sky to see Charlies goals

I'll record that as well and watch it later. Bloody hell I'll be up all night at this rate. Are you doing this on purpose?

Ooops telly automatically switched over as I'm recording too much. Now playing ... Islands in the stream, great song.
