I think he might have been referring to the Boro result, it was the one game I thought we could win when first seeing the fixture lists, but even then, what with the newly promoted factor thrown in, it was not going to be a stroll in the park. This was a tough start to the season again, even before Sam jumped ship and the Kaboul Cone and the M'Vila distractions followed, then we have had to contend with some key injuries and average recruitment, the new faces will take time to blend in, but we looked ok first half, but the die was cast when Everton made the substitution at half time.
I wonder how long we're obliged to keep Januzaj before we can send him back Young Dunc is, as has been suggested, only effective as a sub., and I don't understand why Zorro wasn't even on the bench p.s. am I really classing him as a saviour already
Thought we gave as good as we got first half. Pickford had one really good save to make but thought we played some decent stuff and looked well organised. Second half we may as well have stayed in the changing rooms. Totally different dynamic and seemed to sit back from the whistle. Papy was good first half and a shambles second, Rodwell did the invisible again and Watmore is just lost at this level unfortunately. We showed some good signs in the first half but if we capitulate like we did second we're going to be in for a long haul. Delufeou changed the game for Everton btw, who I fancy for top 6 this season.
Well I think that says everything I was going to say (except for the bit about Short. I have no idea whether he sanctioned money for the positions we need so can't comment).
Can live with that, but Kirchhoff also went missing in the second half. Everton saw where we could be by-passed, we didn't.
We are so mentally weak.....it seems as though until we are backed into a corner we wont show our gonads...been down this road so many times before.Yep, another Houdini needed in the last few games but we have history of doing it time and time again. Sadly, this always seems our destiny as determined by the gods in the boardroom. Put quality on the pitch and it will make things easier....but to get quality you need to spend money. One day we might even outspend Bournemouth....
I'm baffled by some of these comments, can only assume most watched on TV. We were more than decent up to the first goal, didn't create much but defensively untroubled by a very decent side. The goal comes from our corner, blame is going. To Djib, but he got back, Kone didn't and as such he had to try and cover whole box. After that we had to open up and they picked us off, the first goal was gonna win that game and we looked just about as likely as them until it came. I can see the claws out, yet again for Djib, despite him being very good v Southamoton and for first hour last night. Aye, great 'support' lads.
I thought Djib played quite well, really concerned about Rodwell though lad seems devoid of confidence and ideas. Also thought that N'Dong looked OK when he came on but only time will tell.
Djib was decent, he sprinted back to defend and there was space for Lukaku, nobody asking how he was back and golden balls Kone wasn't? He was poor in the second leaving a £30 million striker in space but the team was stretched by then, he looks a good buy to me and seeing people call him **** and write him off just seems so typical of a minority of our fans.
Yeah I think you are right mate I was a bit pist off last night so maybe read everything wrong.. Hope alls well with you mate..
My Dad got in the car after the game and said "That was embarrassing" I asked why and he said worst they've played for as long as he can remember (he's been going since he was 16) I made exactly the comment you did that up until the first goal we were OK - solid and comfortable - and he said I was right. So if we play OK for an hour and not good for half an hour that constitutes an awful performance? Bad result but I saw promise in there. He's also relegated us already (but he hates David Moyes and blamed everything yesterday squarely on the manager) The first goal is a breakaway goal where we needed to be stronger in the tackle on the edge of their box - (was it Khazri - I can't tell from the video above) weak as piss in that challenge. That's where this all stems from. Like the look of N'Dong - looks like a passer of the ball and didn;t seem to mind a tackle either. Kirchhoff is a world class footballer without any doubt. Just wish he was always fit!! Wonder if it'll be those two starting against Spurs?
It was Khazri, and it was a bit soft, but without blindly defending the lad the breakaway was swift. Kone was nowhere to be seen, Djib had to cover the space and an unmarked Lukaku isn't missing that. We haven't looked awful once this season, the thing I will say is Moyes selections are starting to get frustrating, Watmore is not ready to be a starter an that's plain as day. Januzaj got absolutely schooled last night, never seen a winger so dominated by his man, and was still on dead balls initially when Khazri came on. You ask, is Moyes blind? The deliveries were not a threat even once. The shape looked decent up to the goal and it's simply clear we need to reshuffle the final 3rd, Moyes needs to look at this. I'm with you, I was disappointed not disheartened walking out, I think we are close, Catts will have an impact as well soon.
Can't grumble boss, today is supposed to be the hottest September day ever apparently, so glad I'll be stuck inside all day working, to save up for a holiday, that'll cost me about £5k no doubt, so I can sit outside in the sun... how's that for backwards? Hope you're well too pal.
I believe I addressed this at the time. The team didn't play as a unit, there were some very decent individual performances from Kirchhoff, Pickford, and the two centre halves up until the first goal. I thought Januzaj did well considering how isolated he was. At times Manquillo would link up with him, that little scoop pass was lovely and could have been delightful had Manquillo been able to control it and create something, also Adnan's deflected shot fell to the one man you'd hope it to fall to and he shinned it over the bar, on another day JD scores and confidence grows. Until Moyes has you playing like a group, instead of 11 individuals, you'll not see the best of many of your players. None of them looked like they wanted to fight for each other at any point, like I say it was just individual talent that was making you look decent before 0-1. For me, as a neutral, there'd be no room for Watmore in a starting line up and I'd tell Gooch to stop hurrying everything, if he took his time and looked for the simple ball, or the one two, with somebody like Adnan, there's a good player in there.
